    Question IBC Vs Molasses?

    Thought I'd mentioned this. Search only shows two posts from me though. So;

    I have an IBC which was used for molasses. Blah, blah. Google, google. Ethel alcohol?! ('Sugar', water, wild yeast. Boom! Apparently)

    Thing is; It's since held water, for years. Now been cut in half. Washed with caustic soda. Then power washed. Then left to hold rain water for a month and more. Yet, I swear; Standing over it now, in this room ..... Is it me? Or is there a chemical waft off that fifteen gallons of rain water in there?

    Comments, please.

    I can't smell anything??

    If it only ever used as food grade, should be ok but it's your call.

    I was saying to someone earlier, Simon; I need an angler.

    I'm thinking of installing the filter I've bought for it. Properly filling the IBC and running the filter till that's cycled. Then, put some fishes in there. Miners canary fish. See how they get on. Obviously, anyone else would get some goldfish or guppies. Only, I have no access to a pet shop.

    I know IBC's are used by aquarists. I can't think of many other foods that would be stored in them. Hoping someone with prior experience of a molasses one might see this.

    Molasses quite a common ingredient in fishing bait.
    I used to glug loads of it in soaking pidgeon conditioner along with some chilli flakes.
    Carp love the stuff

    I've had it in my tea, for donkeys years now! Mad story behind it. But, I'm rather isolated and live practically like a hermit. I used to trap and photograph moths, till the eyes got past it. And, there's this amazing great moth they traditionally lure in by smearing molasses on a fence post. Well, I grabbed a jar to try it.

    Never actually got round to my fence posts. But, one day I ran out of sugar! Knowing I wouldn't be in town for ages, I was desperate. Then, I remembered it said these moths were attracted to the sweetness of molasses ...? Nothing to loose ... And I never looked back

    We found molasses was better in the colder weather when fishing. Tooty fruity was a good one too

    Yeah bit of lake water in the ground bait then some glug, fill your spod and start to bait the swim. Marker float was a good idea too so you had something to aim at each time
