Mine is probably buying fish when waiting for biofilm to get established properly in new pond when I should have waited
I think we all do it pretty much- human nature to reward yourself for all the effort of a pond build by getting new stock to enjoy.
I didn’t lose any stock, but it probably cost me £400 in water changes, salt, zeolite, filter start products and a few grey hairs for the hairdresser to sort out.

We all know that you absolutely should never ever add new fish when there is any problem or even the slightest doubt with the water or existing fish. Resisting that impulse purchase is hard though. I like my instant gratification

    That's a good one Feline.

Think many of us have done it and you regularly see people posting about parasite problems then a few days later sharing pics of a new addition!

Think my biggest own goal would be ignoring people who recommended going bigger than 7000 litres on my first build.

7k litres looked huge when adding my first three 8cm koi and they were lost in it.

Fast forward 11 months and I was ripping it all out with an extension to 12,000 litres... And I still wish I'd used that opportunity to go a bit deeper as well as just longer.

Here are some options that may help:

    Plead ignorance
Plead you can’t put a price on happiness
Tell her she would not want to be cold
Blame the hair drier, straightners and tumble drier
Say it’s an estimate and must be a mistake

if all else fail, adopt the ‘crash position’

    Cheers

Or another one, make a payment on the sly to the electric company so the bill don't change

My OH is often looking at what our PV system is doing online, and comments that the heat pump must be on because we are using over 1.5kw when absolutely nothing in the house is switched on. He is well aware of what the pond uses when the heat pump is not on also as there’s a nice flat but non-zero line in the graph overnight when we are not generating anything solar-wise. No secrets in this house

I wish I'd gone smaller, its probably near 5000 gals now, at approximately 4.5 x 3.0 x 1.8, ID still got a few issues with the dam thing as well.
On better news my tank of 360galls is up and running with a temp fluctuating between 15.7 and 16 degree's just need half a dozen fish, between maybe 4 to 8 inches now to test it out and get filter cycling, we're on lockdown here and lot of dealers are struggling with deliveries, plus I don't want to spend more than 15 to 20quid per fish, just need a few odds and sods to test the system and me to learn to keep them alive

Do you heat? just watched a video and keeper reckons its costing him 3 to 4 quid a day to heat

Koi Diaries 101 hungry koi and more pond heating talk. was the video.
