    Koi treats

    Hi Everyone
My filters are working well now even though flow is grim at 33% max lph on 100% pump power. They'll all be changed shortly for the rdf i should have installed in the first place Koi treats! But I've a bit of modding to do first with new side wall drain and return pipework.
I'm feeding 3 to 4 times a day and parameters are stable, fish visibly growing. Pond's at 21 degrees.
I'd seen a few videos with people feeding koi fruit. Mine love melon I've discovered you're just left with a stripped out hoop!
What else do people feed their fish outside of pellets?
    Thanks
    Jim

I sometimes let mine eat a lettuce for fun, but I’m always wary of ‘diluting’ the quality of their diet with treats that are less balanced.
The water and filters tick along nicest when I keep things consistent, so mine have to make do with their koi food and the algae on the walls mostly

I feed mine silk worm pupae as a test in the warmer temps. For smaller koi I crush the pupae and find these better than mealworms which get a bit ‘dusty’.

    Cheers

    Hi Jim,
I am also originally from N. Ireland though I live in N.Wales now
Feed mine mussels bought frozen then defrost as I need them, mealworms the sort for birds as koi ones are expensive, brown bread they love and basically they eat most things.

Thanks, one of my sons breeds zebra finches and the dried shrimp and meal worms etc in bulk for them are cheap as cheap can be. I suppose it's the "Koi tax". I noticed that even looking potassium permanganate to age some K1 recently. Koi branded £ 9.99 250g. Non branded lab supplies locally £4.99 500g. Such is life with koi.
