Baffled with Ph test
This morning i done a water test this morning, last test was done a good few weeks ago (i know i should be checking more regular, sorry) anyway i have a regime where i fill all 4 bottles of test tubes to 5ml then put them in a row on the table, the first is the Ph test followed by Kh because you don't have to wait 5 minutes for the result, all tested bottles are then left outside the box on the table, as usual i took the Ph bottle out the box and added 5 drops in the test tube and the result came at 9.0 i nearly fainted, my Ph has always been 8.0 and no higher, i am now in proper panic mode and ready for a big water change or jump in the car to buy BS, i thought let me check the other parameters, Nitrite was zero and Ammonia was also zero, then again compared the Ph with the chart to quadruple check which was still showing 9.0, took the Kh bottle out the box and tested, Kh came out at 8 as it always does, got me thinking why the Kh was not changed, done another test for Ph and the result was 8 done 2 more and still 8, i now am completely baffled as i am sure i did not mix up the Ph bottle with the Kh bottle as i only take out the bottle i am testing from the box at a time, either way it was a relief, i am now thinking as i don't have the test tubes marked could a residue from another test have played on results, i always wash and leave the tubes to dry after testing, i also doubted myself thinking i must have took the Kh bottle getting mixed up with the letter P and K, but i clearly remember the Kh bottle still in the box, i think i am going mad

Hi mate,
I would suggest keep a regular check before taking any action if the koi are displaying expected behaviours.
Rain can increase the PH.
BS will not reduce it.
Cheers

I always have to test my ph twice with api
Kit. Sometimes 3 times. Especially if the bottle s have been standing around. For a while with out use. It needs more then a shake. I stand there shaking it for about 5 minutes. To get the mix to work. I now know it does this. So I know it is the regents need the extra long shake now.
