Air turn off ?
Is it worth turning off my air stones in the pond now the colder weather is here? I’ve got enough air being created by the return feeds.
The only downside I can see is that the circulation will drop and will mean less muck settling in the pond?

Hi,
Less air is needed in the colder temperatures as you recognise how we again as you recognise this can bring disadvantages such as dead spots.
Personally I leave mine running as in colder temperatures the air pump itself is offer warmer than the ambient so my logic is it must be adding a small amount of heat..
Cheers

Me too! My 2 airpumps chuck out loads of heat that help keep the temp in the filter house a bit warmer and the air going into the pond is actually almost hot so by the time its gone through the airtubes its def not cooling the water in the pond. I leave my pond airstones on all winter under the poly carbs.

I have to say I’ve covered my air pump over in the filter area (I’ve used a foil bubble wrap blanket over the whole lot) and I cannot believe how warm it is under there compared to outside. I’d keep it on personally.
I have turned my oase circulating pump down though and am considering turning of the UV until March - thing is the water clarity is awesome at the money and definitely benefitting from have the 35mm polycarbonate sheeting over the pond.

I do the exact opposite of turn air off in winter- in summer air domes are on a timer so not on all the time. In winter if I cover the pond they are on all the time.

Hi I leave everything running all year round
24/7. My fish hate change. If I turn air off at all they attack the air dome. They go nuts.
