    Filter Advice

Many thanks to MankySanke for spending his valuable time to look at my neighbours filter system and to give me ideas for converting a very poor system into a reasonable one that can work

    Hi Feline
below is what Syd recomended to do ,there are 17 pods in each bank of pods holding apro 6000 gals of water
pics of some of the pods and a layout of the system as it works

You don't have much to work with there Peter,

Personally I'd be tempted to fill it in and start again with a proper filter system but I assume that's not an option so I've been trawling for a filter system you could build yourself using what you have available and this sort of conversion is what would be a possibility if you felt you could do it.

The flow is from left to right and is directed by the pipes to flow from the top of one tank to the bottom of the next. If you preferred, you could fit baffles in each tank in place of the pipes so that water overflowed from one tank, down between the incoming wall and the baffle so it then came up through the tank in the same way it does in the drawing.

However, each tank would collect silt so the drain valves are essential to flush it away. If you don't have those valves along with some way of them draining to a lower point, you would need to empty the tank with a submersible pump, ideally, every week.

It could either be pump fed to the left hand side or you could have a pump on the right that drew water through the system and pumped it back to the pond.

    Hi markini5
He is quite adamant the rivers must stay
At the moment i am building a bridge to match the two that are over the ponds to give access to the pump house, then i will baffle the first two pods on each run into 8 chambers the same style as a cockney koi but with a far greater capacity and to include two bays of moving bed media in each run.
Added a couple of pics of the existing bridges and the bridge i have done

    Thanks Wain for the compliment.
My neighbour only had 6 of those wrought iron frames left over, could have done with two more. So i adapted them to match the other bridges.
handrails and ironwork are early victorian from a demolised Wesleyan chappel he demolished in Tipton in the 90's
more used to building large conveyors LOL

This is such an interesting project and that 3rd bridge is beautifully made and a great match to the existing. Your neighbour is lucky to have you! Filter Advice

All very impressive ... as is your sidecar racing history! Forgive me for saying but haven't you gotta be a bit of a nutter to do that (she says in total awe)?!!!! My first driving experiences were on the banger racing circuits so I appreciate a good adrenalin rush, but sidecar racing is a whole other level. No wonder you're not fazed by the challenge of these ponds Filter Advice
