    Heater for quarantine tank.

Looking for ideas / recommendations for a heater for my 1000l / 300 gal quarantine tank.

Set up is bottom drain into a Nexus Easy pod.

Currently have 15 goldfish in there and looking for something to keep the temp from going too low. Ie would like to keep it 8-10 degrees or above.

A lot of the heaters seem to only have ranges of 20 deg C upwards ?

Any suggestions , prefer an in pond heater rather than than an in line heater as I would have to change my pipework around unless run independently.

    Pic of set up.

Bowl and net were for fry from spawning earlier in the year.
    Thanks

I知 wondering the same thing bud - I知 running mine off a digital DD Aqaurium controller using 2x 600w titanium heaters to warm mine.

Problem is, I heated it yesterday and it used a crazy amount of electric to warm the system from 13 to 18 and seem to be on constantly to keep the temp stable, which I worry will cost me a fortune long term.

    Is there a cheaper option?

What range of temps can you set on your controller. Looking online a lot seem to have a minimum of either 16 or 20 degrees.

With mine , I'm not looking for growth type temperatures but a temp to try and keep their immune system ticking over, whilst they slow down over the winter.

Hopefully at that level they are not in full blast all the time and electric is under control.

This is what I use mate - you can set this to 0.01 degree variance of what you want from low right the way through to 30 add degrees

    https://www.h2oaquatics.co.uk/heatin...emp-controller

You値l need to buy a heater with it - titanium are the best

Had just found that controller on line!

Might go for two heaters as whilst initial cost is higher they will not be working so hard to heat the tank.

Yeah good shout - remember the one socket is for cooling and the other heating, so if you run two heaters you値l want a double socket adapter Heater for quarantine tank.

I use an STC-1000 brewers temperature controller (these are really cheap, less than a tenner, can be fitted into a lunch box or other waterproof enclosure) wired up to any aquarium heater for the QT.
You just cut off the plug and wire the heater directly into the controller, and wire that up to your mains supply.
The general rule of thumb is to have at least 100w per 1000 litres- but I would go bigger to prevent it being on all the time in colder weather.

They have a 1C hysteresis which some people think is not very smooth, but I doubt the fish are bothered much by a 1C variation considering what they would get in an outdoor pond.

No matter which electric heater you use, the costs can be quite high if the tank isn’t extremely well insulated. Only way of reducing that is to run an ASHP or use gas central heating to do it, both of these are generally too costly to be economic for a small grow on or QT system.

This is like the one I have https://www.amazon.co.uk/Temperature...n%2C158&sr=8-7

that looks very similar to the stat i use for my inline heater.
it's an old one i had on my reef tank, but is called a TC10
does heating and cooling and the hysterisis is adjustable down to 0C in 0.1 increments so very accurate. have mine set at 0.3C
here is the manual for it below in attachment....

There is a new generation of mini ASHP's. Id go for one of these (3kw) it will be worth it in the long term. Im just in the process of fitting the 5kw version to my outdoor pond.

thats looks a good bit of kit at a really good price.

do you know what the COP temperature curve is?
as the lowest COP rating of 5.03 given is A15/W26 (air temperature 15C/Water temperature 26C)

some only give a low COP at very low ambient temperatures, or the heat exchanger will ice up.
but would still be ok for heating from late spring to early autumn.
