lernex pro
i was talking to someone about flukes the other day, he was having issues with them and said he was using lernex pro, I use prazi to treat flukes which is around 50 something grams per treatment for me. His pond is pretty much the same volume as mine and he was saying it was 500+grams of lernex pro for 1 treatment does that sound right for a pond around 3000gallon to anyone else using lernex pro?

I have used fluke M recently but it failed so I got lernex pro and this seemed to sort things for me.
The doses are much larger in the lernex pro yes. 1kg to 20k litres while fluke M would be 53g for the same.

Lernex Pro is the most hefty dose per litre compared to other fluke treatments. It really packs a punch, especially with it's three ingredients of Nitroscanate, Praziquantel & Flubendazole. This is a comparison table I did earlier this year when I had prazi resistant flukes, and 4 lots of Fluke Solve had failed. I wanted to understand the compositions of the various treatments, their dosing regimes and costs. This was based on my pond at the time that was 11,500L. It is now slightly less as I've changed from a Nexus 220 to a ProfiClear Compact, which dropped the volume of water in the filter. Other than the actual ingredients, dose per litre, and cost per dose are the most interesting columns. This doesn't include standard Lernex as that wasn't on my hit list by the time I came to draw this up. Hope this is helpful:

Good info Koiz..... i used fluke M this time round after using standard Lernex prior because i needed something a bit less toxic as my fish have been through the mill a bit with all of the treatments, not used Fluke M before, fingers crossed the flashing has stopped so i am hopeful this has worked, my second dose went in last Friday so will do a scrape this weekend, if i find flukes i will be stumped as pond temp is dropping and i doubt they will poke up with much more chemicals.....

It is a lot of product, but it's comparable price wise to Fluke Solve and Fluke S. Interesting how much less Fluke M is. I do wonder if this is a good step to try if you have the Prazi resistant flukes rather than throwing the hammer straight in with the Pro. Really hope it works for you, @smartin. So hard to know isn't it. Nothing worse than having to redose thanks to a failed treatment, not just the cost but the stress on the fish, and the system as a whole if you are using CT again I haven't been able to find out the strengths or percentages of each of the ingredients for the Pro, but I'm guessing the Nitroscanate is what really makes the difference in terms of nuking anything that has built up resistance to Prazi or Flubendazole. I've got Pro sitting on my shelf now, just in case. I scraped 3 fish on Sunday in preparation for their winter tuck in. Found absolutely nothing, but 4 of mine are occasionally flashing so I'm on tenter hooks incase I've missed something!

Lernex Pro is:
Praziquantel 16.25 mg/ml
Nitroscanate 3 mg/ml
Flubendazole 1mg/ml
So basically like using 2 of the other fluke treatments at the same time.
If I had resistance I would probably use Supaverm, but this is a bit of a hammer and harsher on the koi (and kills goldfish so you can’t use in a mixed pond). For a large pond Supaverm ends up way cheaper also, and is in a liquid suspension so no problems with drum screens removing it from the water. Other disadvantage for most people is it being a POM.Last edited by Feline; 24-09-2020 at 09:28 PM.

Ha! Just seen that at the bottom of the Pro box. How the hell did I miss it!!!! I've looked so many times. I know I've got bad cataracts, but even so Anyway - thanks Feline! I've now updated my spreadsheet.
Yup - that's the problem, getting hold of it! To be honest, think I'd still be a bit loath to use it from all I've read about it ... and that's coming from the person that's used Fluke Solve, FMG, PP, Alparex, CT and Lernex Pro in just one season11,440L Raised Pond, BD, Oase ProfiClear, Bitron 55W, 2x10k Aquaforte Varios, Skimmer to Waterblade

It’s not difficult to get hold of really, you just need a prescription. If you have other pets and are registered with a vet, just show them some images of the flukes you’ve found and your pond and explain why you want it. They would usually be happy to write a prescription or order it in for you (if they are a mixed practice doing farm work too they might have some in stock in their pharmacy, although you want 1 litre of it not 5l and many farmers use the 5l size to do their whole flock). There will be a small fee for writing a prescription. Loads of online places sell it if you have the script to show.

I have learned over the years to take a Vet Rx and fulfill it online for my cats as it's so much cheaper Shockingly so sometimes! It's a pity as I feel I'd like to support my Vet more, but their medication charges are unfeasible so unless it falls under an insurance claim that goes over my excess, I'll get it online.
Hmmm - interesting point about the famers. We have loads round here, though most tend to be arable rather than sheep. I'll bear that in mind though. When I had the awful jaw injury on my Yama (thread here: https://www.koiforum.uk/koi-health-disease-medication-forum/24644-serious-jaw-injury-hard-lesson-warning.html) I tried to find a vet that would help me, or at least provide me with antibiotic injections, with no success at all. I got so lucky that Japan Koi Import took my fish into quarantine and treated it there for me. That saga had a happy ending.11,440L Raised Pond, BD, Oase ProfiClear, Bitron 55W, 2x10k Aquaforte Varios, Skimmer to Waterblade
