    Amalgam UV during winter

    Hi All,

Always turned my TMC UV off over winter, from October onwards. I now have a Amalgam UV (got a Filtereau drum filter).

Stupid question Do people still turn these off over winter?

    Cheers.

I don’t, because I don’t want biofilm to build up on my drum screen.
Have considered putting it on a timer to be on during the day and off at night, but have never got around to it!

Same here. I turn off in winter and no problems with drum mesh so far.

I plan to turn off my UV's in a month most likely when the cold has set or I've covered whatever comes first. 85w in total so will help save a few pennies. Considering my surface skimmer too but may just turn pump to minimum to keep the water movement at the varying levels from the lower return
