Are you pump or gravity fed, and can you rotate the drum smoothly by hand?

It would be good to know what specific drum it is along with confirming if it is pump or gravity Fed

I assume you have followed what is in the manual for trouble shooting?

Hi ,thanks for your replies. It's gravity fed and with a superfish 20000 which has worked well for 2 years. The drum spins around ok with my hands and all seems in place.
I read the Manuel and it said somthing about greasing but wasn't sure what it meant

If this set up has been working well for 2 years and you've no change in flow rates or water heights, then I'd contact Oase Technical. Very helpful lot and they'll arrange a site visit if you can't fix it under their instructions if still in warranty.

Did you register the product on the Oase site when you bought it? If not do you have the proof of purchase? I believe they'll want to see that before a site visit if that's necessary.

Yes the Oase drums do use grease ... they even come with a little tube of it in the kit! Tech told me it's really only used when installing the drum so not something required as 'maintenance' which rather contradicts the manual! Another reason to call them Error code 44 oase proficlear

Yup - as is always the case, luck of the draw who you get on the phone!!! Now I'm back at my PC, I can offer you another number for Oase: 01869 322 489. This is actually the one I normally use for them The other I found from a Google search on my phone earlier.

Normally use lol are they that bad? i know from 25 years of using their pumps, overpriced crap, had 3 new ones over the years never lasted much past their warranty period

their drum filters look flimsy and massively overpriced

though i am somewhat totally biased due to now able to make quality over engineered filters i researched as much as i could listened out for faults on other brands and 18 months experience with my first design then made my latest design

Error code 44 oase proficlearYes I can see how that must have sounded! The reason I had a hot line to Oase was because I had so many questions, whilst researching a new system, that I couldn't find online; the Tech Team were all working from home as it was the height of lockdown, but they were still really helpful.

In fairness, I'm delighted with my Profi so far. Not sure how I'll feel if I have to carry out repairs as the Compact is - well -"very compact" Error code 44 oase proficlear, but the maintenance is fine and its much easier to keep clean than the Nexus+Draco with its removable screens.

I got the Combi, Bitron Gravity and an extra fine set of screens, for a very good price (a tad over 2,300). That was about 1k cheaper than any other solution - of course I didn't know about your custom made drums then! Error code 44 oase proficlear

I've had a lot of Oase kit over the years for both pond and aquarium, and none of its failed. What's the betting I've jinxed myself now having said that Error code 44 oase proficlear

they are very compact i agree with you , i steered well away from nexus/draco for a million reasons

my price on the drum you brought is about 1k cheaper

im only doing custom one off jobs for each customer that way they can specify space they have and install inlets and outlets where they wish to make installation simpler and more cost effective , size of external , i can make the drums much shorter lengths by increasing dia of drum massively , having much larger dia drums is my preferred design , and having the water line/level all the way upto the waste chute, surface area submerged 100% of the time is 460mm x 1300mm which is massive
as the drum is way more submerged below the water level , it means i can pull greater flow rates via just 1 bottom drain and 1 skimmer line, cleaning times dramatically reduced to once every 2 hours now, and reduced water consumption with the high quality irrigation nozzle jets ive chosen for this, they are top branded ARAG each jet has a fine stainless steel filter inside

spray bar polished 316 stainless steel 1.5mm thick walls , old drum as 20mm grey pressure pipe, but was sagging under its own weight
i using high end food grade industrial Ceramic bearings/plastic carriers on all shafts , drum roller wheels (same) these never need greasing, and are designed to last forever and designed for much more heavy duty applications at much higher speeds .

same with the drive system , well over engineered , main drum sprocket gear weighs over 600grams , 3/8 drive, all in 304 stainless steel, same with the chain, these are ment for CNC MACHINES LOL
one way clutch bearing fitted, i had to design the bell housing and make it for it, its a sprag clutch designed for motorbikes lol fitted outside the drum for obvious reasons, 15mm shaft through, welded to a shaft joiner on the motor. motor is an high end parvalux 24v geared industrial unit 8rpm no chinese crap here. these motors alone cost over 200

my old drum , the waste chute was made from old plastic guttering , installed level, but it wouldnt clear proper , over a few days the muck would build up causing the chute to drop at the rear so the waste would flow out properly ,

new drum has a half circle chute 125mm wide angled a few degrees upwards into the drum meaning all the waste is captured and flows down and out the drum into the waste bin , its working as i want. its made from stainless steel 1.5mm thick walls, welded to a plate on the outside at an angle , i pre tried bearing my weight down on the waste chute once welded and pre trial fitted didnt move at all..

mesh is 50 micron 316 , i can go much finer , my last mesh lasted 18 months on the old filter , no issues, so brought from same place again , but needed a custom size but was really cheap
the mesh will last many years
all parts i can replace no issues what so ever in sourcing spares

Morning @markini5, Just coming back to this post as wanted to clarify your pricing for an Oase Compact M replacement

The 2,300 I paid included the Bitron Gravity 55W UV (average best price 460) and a set of fine 60 micron screens (usually about 150). The Compact M is usually 2,100. I got very good prices on all my parts hence why I paid about 400 less than normal, with my Drum costing 1,900. Just wondered what your price for the drum would be taking just the cost of that into consideration, not the whole kit I bought. Thanks

    Hi Danny,

Not sure if you have got a resolution to your error 44 or not. I had the same problem my drum, it moved freely as yours does and the issue was the motor. I bought my drum second hand, however having spoke to the previous owner and sorting out the warranty I spoke to the nice guys at Oase and they replaced the motor for me. If you are feeling brave you can remove the motor and test to see if it is working. I did this to prove that it was the motor.

I removed the motor replaced the lid due to the error11 you get and pressed the clean button, and the motor did nothing at all.

I would sugest that you speak to the team at Oase and explain all that you have done to diagnose the issue and I am sure that if it is still under warranty they will send you a replacement once you have sent them the old motor.

Let us know how it goes.
    Cheers
    Dave

    Hi Dave
Thank you for your reply. Oase have been helpfull. They said to first remove the drum, clean it to eliminate that.
I'm out of warranty unfortunately so worried the motor is going to be be an arm and a leg as I'm now out of work, really bad timing!!
Was it easy to remove the motor?

    Thanks Dan.

    Hi Danny,

I am sorry to hear about your work situation.

As for removing the motor it was very easy, 2 nuts and bolts at the top of the motor, you will need an allen key and spanner or pliers. The removal is then done mate.
Removing the drum is also very straight forward, do you still have the manual as it details it very well, you will need to remove the screens to access the cotter pin but I found it very straight forward buddy.

If you are going to test the motor whilst out of position ensure that you do have water in the filter as it does draw from the clean side and you do not want to burn out the internal pump that takes the cleaning water.

    Hope it helps you.

    Cheers
    Dave
