    Drum on skimmer line

Does anyone have a drum on their skimmer?

Currently got a Draco drop in on my multibay and a sieve on my skimmer line but I am thinking of getting 2 drums so the pond is pretty much self cleaning.

Im thinking still keep the skimmer basket for large twigs , small fish etc

Its a while off yet but I am considering it for next year

Why not tee off so both are feeding the one drum? What is your drum's max flow rate?

on my post if you see I am on a draco drop in in my vortex

impossible to plug in another pipe - would mean drilling into fibreglass and the draco would not have flow rate for both.

draco drop in's have around 12k max flow rate, rather pathetic for a 4" bottom drain never mind adding a sieve to it as well.

I do run both BDs and the skimmer gravity into my drum.
If you’re already running a sieve on the skimmer line then it should be an easy replacement for you and give you instantly clearer water plus low maintenance straight away, what’s not to like?

I have a draco drop in on nexus 320
    3700gph / 16500lph flow rate.
It's my 2nd one. Tried and tested over 6 years. That's why I went for the 2nd one.
Also depends what you want to do with it.
Dwell time and all that. And it does a good job. If run right. That's my opinion. I believe in 2nd lines seperate from a drum. If a drum breaks down. You still have another way of filtering. I now have the other draco as a spare drum if this did happen. Before buying the 2nd drop in. I kept the easy for the nexus. So you could still use it as a filter. While waiting for parts. If it went tits up. It may have flaws. But it also has benefits. What I have read on here over the years. Theres quite a lot of drums makes that are not perfect.
At the end of the day a drum is a drum they all clean the same way. And dump the crap
The same way. Each to there own.

Mine is rated at 16.8K in gravity mode

Got a superfish remote Eco pump on it set to level 6 which is still under that flow rate and as we all know tyou never get true flow rate from a pump so I estamate I'm below that drum flow rate setting still.

no problems from me and I have full turnover around 1 hour 20 mins

no debris etc on the bottom of the pond and I am a flat base

exactly mate - was thinking when I go away on holiday instead of getting my nieghbour to empty the skimmer basket and flush the seive every 2 days I could be all automated and getting better filtered water to the shower.

Im on 2 separate feeds. BD goes to vortex with a drop in goes to multibay

Skimmer is a 3 inch gravity feed to sieve then 2 3 tier shower with Mam BHM in

anyone considering buying a drum filter from me is welcome to visit me and see mine working ,

if i start getting customers (NONE YET ) lots of interest then i can show more of my work and look at getting a website/facebook page created

i plan of being independent of all middle men and dealers to keep my prices as low as possible
so only i will be selling these including spares if required.
and any advice more than welcome to contact me.

mine are deliberately over engineered and built to last , mine weighs around 70kg but its ment for a 10,000 gallon pond and 60,000+ litre flow rates though in time i plan to extend my pond currently 3000 gallons to around 5000 gallons with high stock levels

pictures really dont do this drum filter justice sorry not many to show. , its the other half's fault she took the pictures

really difficult to take pictures now due to where its installed, partially under a structure and 2 doors right in the middle of the filter where they enclose my setup .

    Hi

I’m planning to fit a Filtreau HF30/35 after my skimmer in place of my sieve. My BD and Tomy drain currently feed my Oase drum.

The skimmer then feeds one of my bakki showers and over the last 6 weeks I have experimented with putting sponges onto of the media and comparing the waste on them. The difference is unbelievable. The one after the sieve needs cleaning at least once per week as it is caked, the one after the drum is spotless 6 weeks on...

If you are interested in Filtreau please PM me

    Cheers
