Spoke with a good friend who works for the Thames water board, he said that in times of drought / replenishing struggles there can be additional UV used within the sterilisation process over and above the norm, there could be slight increases in Chlorine but should be diluted out prior to getting to our taps but of course no guarantee's, he put me in touch with the Environmental side of the water board for the South East and as such are awaiting an email back from this lady to see if the local reservoir / water board has changed anything...... i will keep you updated.....

Well in fairness to Emma she did call me this evening not long after i last posted, a very pleasant lady, she was quite adamant that South East water are not taking any extra precautions or actions in any way due to the weather, she went on to say that treatments are exactly the same and there are no increases in chemicals or filtering...... Koi was not her strong point obviously but she did go on to say that there has been unprecedented fish deaths over the past few weeks due to high day and night temps and oxygen depletion in algae infested ponds and lakes...... she could not offer any more information, her view is that our issues are temp/oxygen related to which i advised her it wasn't, if anyone has any contacts/friends within SE water treatment team now would be a good time to call to see if they can offer up anymore info......from what i have heard our water is still the same.

I for one don t believe that. When you work it out. The summer weather has been crap.
Only high temps for a weeks run.
What about 2 or 3 years ago. It was in the 30c for months. Hardly any fish losses.
Yet this year. Lots of fish deaths. They ain't going to admit it either. Even if they have added anything.
As they have nt let house owners know.
    By mail or post.
    To coincidental for me.
Nice one Steve for trying to find out.

It certainly is extremely odd. I have a high ammonia reading from my tap water which I don't know if this is unusual or not but from now on my water changes will only be the quantity it takes to clear the muck out the waste in my filter as I feel like it does more harm than good doing frequent changes with the readings I get out my tap. Given the issues I have had from a new pond on what essentially is barely feeding too, I don't believe I have done anything wrong other than not flushing the pond before filling.
Although speaking with the fibreglasser, he said they don't use toxic materials in their fibreglass or not to levels that it used to be anyway and if there was something seeping out the fish would go belly up pretty much straight away.
It seems too coincidental that so many people are losing fish with little to no explanation and it seems to regardless of pond age etc.

Ultimately she had no reason to lie to me, she is on the environmental side and was up for listening and taken time out on a Friday night to call me, we had a friendly chat and there was no pressure from me to her about fish deaths etc is was a polite conversation simply asking if in hot humid dry weather does the board do any additional filtration / chemical addition to the water which we could try to counter act if we knew, she was straight as a dye on this and i did not think/get the impression for a minute she was trying to cover anything up....... i agree with you that it is mighty strange why the treatments have not worked to eradicate flukes and ultimately the weaker fish in our ponds have paid the price with gill congestion and probable suffocation..... i am struggling like hell to rescue two ailing fish still and have lost a mizou ogon a few weeks back........ the only thing i can think of that is different to last year is having weed treatment in my pond at the same time i was treating the fish just coincidental that it worked out that way..... maybe that weakened the dosage and also having an active drum in place, we could go round in circles no doubt....... the oxygen levels in our pond is a probable area that not many of us actually measure so i for one will be buying something to monitor this as its about the only thing i don't monitor lol....... fingers crossed things improve and settle as the temps and humidity return to lower levels.......
