Virkon aquatic dose
Hello
Got some virkon aquatic s tablets and I have dosed at 1 tablet per 1000 gallons.
When do you do a re dose and if so at what rate . The only downloads and pdf's I can find are talking about powder form and vet use.

Hi Jim,
I've started to use the same tablets and I do a weekly dose of 3 tablets for my 3000gal pond and a 5% water change after a few days. The koi dealer I bought them from originally told me to use 13 tablets in a bucket of pond water which I did and had no ill effect on the fish until i found this information on the web. Hope that helps

1 tablet to 500 gallons.
If you have an issue you can double dose for the 1st dose

You can get it as a powder too which is a lot cheaper although I've never used it, presumably as each tablet is 5g you can easily do the maths though

Depends what you need to do jim and why.
If your sanitizing the pond. Double dose.
With 10 % water change beforehand.
Then its 1 tablet 1000 gallons weekly. As a routine maintenance dose. That's what I was led to believe. I dosed with 10 tablets
The other week on 5000 gallons. Pond.
So double dosed. And fish where ok.
I have not carried on with weekly dose of 5 tablets. But will be around January time.
New to me virkon. But I have heard good results with members on here.

Forgot to add. I think there is two types of virkon. Virkon aquatics. And virkon.
I believe virkon aquatics is a weaker version. That's why information is different.
I might be wrong but that's my take on it lol
I think virkon was developed for pig farms
And aquatics for fish. So weaker doses. Lol
So as not to wipe your filters bio out.

Never noticed any serious issue no.
I don`t use it all the time, only spring and autumn as a preventative, and if I ever I see any odd marks etc as it helps healing.
It can be used at low water temps

I’ll be interested in like this but the powder form but just abit hesitate if it knocks the bio in the filters back?
It’s this a similar product Virasure Koi?

I found it here www.viovet.co.uk/Virkon-S-Disinfectant/c8163/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMIxMGX6cb56gIVw7HtCh3VdQCKEAAYAiA AEgLSzPD_BwE
Are the tablets the same?

Thanks for reply. Like the answer of bio should be ok. I intend to use it until october
Then knock it on the head. And use it as a preventative measure also. Had a bad year
This year and last year. With parasites.
And I am hoping this stuff will help. Keep the balance of the water chemistry. As it took a massive knock with all the treating.
Costia was murder to get rid of. Fluke was dealt with pretty easy.
Thanks for info.

Yes me too early this year and in lockdown had to treat the pond a few times and as you know from my older posts had 6 deaths so then I bought a couple of pure pond bombs to help get the bio back up.
Worst year ever of keeping fish for me .
Just want to use this Virkon and be done I hope
I have the virkon aquatic tablets so I assume that 1 per 1000 galls but will do another double dose tomorrow after a small water change.

Hi rich
for issues do you mean costia or something that would be the 1 tablet per 250 gallons?
Im after a a permanganat style once treatment. For what it worth the fish have stopped flashing but i have one sulky with a bit of fungus on him and one whos up and about but lost scales due to flashing and he too has a bit of red tail blood and some fungus.
Cant be bothered with FMG used to much of that this year and had no success with it not to mention it sent my filters back to the equivalent of a hoselock 5000 filter you'd get a B and Q
Water params are good and ph is around 8 as I bunged some extra bicarb in to feed the new filter bugs I have put in.
thanks
