Cleaning stainless steel bakki shower.
Just picked up a used bakki shower and there is quite a build up of limescale on it.
Before I plumb it in I wanted to give it a good clean, I have tried garlic lime scale remover, it has shifted some but I think there must be a better product out there?
Also there is a few bits of rust.. surprises as it’s stainless
Maybe it grime and not rust but it does look like rust, advise on cleaning this also would be appreciated

wire wool for the rust maybe? as for the limescale you could try vinegar/water mix? I don't know the effects this would have if not cleaned after in regards to if its fish friendly or not but I would assume you will have to deep clean it all with PP before adding to the pond anyway?

I think wire wool would be too abrasive, I don’t want to effect the finish.
Yes the shower will have a good clean before adding it. Not sure if pp or just a thorough hose and wipe down.
The lime scale is pretty built up I cannot see vinegar working...

I used lots of white vinegar from supermarket. It’s really cheap and got all limescale and rust marks off mine, plus safe.

I guess I will have to clean my bakki off looks worse than yours!
media stays clean inside though.
i will wait and see how you get on Mike, i had wondered about using some metal polish and mop on the outside.

Cleaning stainless steel bakki shower.
One of the worst bits was the underside of the bottom weir. Assume lots of splashing. Product brought it up a treat

I think Wd40 is a good stainless steel cleaner.

Yes the underside is always wet, it looks really clean good job there.
getting it clean is the first part but it’s keeping it that way would be nice hence I was thinking of polishing the outside.
The first year wasn’t to bad but after the second it didn’t look pretty, I will build a screen over them when I get around to it.

Stainless steel isn`t rust proof.
Under certain conditions it will rust.
However, what you have is most likely what is called "Tea Staining" its a natural reaction which is almost a self protection by the stainless steel and it won`t affect it`s integrity.
Whatever you do, don`t use wire wool or anything similar. By doing that you create minute scratches in the surface, which can penetrate the protective layer and encourage rust. What is more likely though, is that wire wool fibres will become embedded in the surface and they will rust and mark the surface.
You are doing the right thing with the cleaner, just don`t use anything abrasive and make sure it`s well rinsed.

The clean up is going well. Looks almost like new now. There is a few pits that have occurred under the limescale so cannot do anything about that unfortunately but it’s very minor.
I’ll get a photo when it’s all back together
