    Well well

So I’ve built one well, and as a well (in this weather) it’s now started to work wonderfully! So I’m digging a second well closeby with a sump pump, question is has anyone ever left the sump pump in situ? I seem to have an unlimited water supply from the various old land drains and it would give an easy way to water the lawn, top up the wildlife pond. A Big tube of industrial pipe with the pump in would seem an easy solution.

Waste tends to be solids so I suspect it would block a waster soak away.

As a water source you may want to get it tested for land runoff such as fertilisers, cipoerbased lawn treatments & weedkillerz.

Great idea SB but as Nick says how will you be able to ensure the water is never contaminated in any way for your wildlife pond ? is there a hole that we cannot see in this well or are you below the water table so getting seepage into the base or is your idea to pump water from your land drains into the well as holding tanks and use when required? cheers Steve.

Id be fairly confident in the water as it comes from my land (old land drains and from the roof of orangery/house). Its seeping through the sides (presumably how a well works!) not the bottom slab and this is dry without the water from the sides, it also has a DPM under the concrete.
After reading this https://www.koiforum.uk/water-treatm...inability.html im tempted to use i to top up the koi pond. Pretty much an unlimited supply. Ive never got how we shouldnt use rainwater to top up koi ponds and interesting alot of people are actually doing it. It kills me to pay United Utilities a penny more than i need to.
