Be kind, be helpful
I’m not a moderator on this forum. However in organising the EKF G&S 2020 with Gaz from Aurora Koi it has been brought to my attention that because of some threads currently ongoing and the language / approach being taken that at least one forum member who was going to take part has decided not to. Whilst this is nothing to do with the event itself, I personally find this really sad.
MY PLEA:
EMBRACE DIFFERENCE, BE KIND, BE HELPFUL.
.......and of course 99% of the time everyone is.
Ian.

That’s a shame someone feels that they can’t partake due to a bit of forum bish bosh.
I can genuinely say that all the fellas I’ve met personally off here are top notch and it shouldn’t put anyone off a G&S. Bit of a limp excuse if you ask me.
But hey. If I’ve upset anyone I actually like then apologies, if you’re a plank then sorry again, but you’ll have to get told you’re a plank.
I’ll try and stay away from the relevant threads and stick to helping the genuine people not the attention seekers.

The old adage, if you can’t say something nice say nothing at all comes to mind. If you don’t like the thread/post/member just ignore it, move on, that poster will get bored and move on.

I've been watching the interactions.
In that particular effect, advice was sought and advice was given but not used. Concern was expressed at that course of action and rebutted. Advice was then sought due to the concerns manifesting itself and anger in reflections of "I told you so".
A forum member pleas for sensible interaction and a response that it bores and a plea to moderators for civility.
An adult koi forum - a place of peace, flowing tranquility is what is strived for after hours of back breaking sweat and tiring nervous planning, answers to the unknown with the odd smatter of humour.
I've spent years working across the globe. Culture, norms, and humour vary wildly however a little respect costs nothing and wins friends.
PS.. not sure if I shared my quantum cryptography day job it would brighten people's days or not...14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)

For the record, I’m not angry
In my old age I’m finding my tolerance of dimness is diminishing that’s all.
We all have to learn, it’s how you learn that’s important. If advice is asked for then offered, take it, especially if it’s from people who are far more experienced than myself.
Hasty decisions are always regretted later. I know that from my own experiences.
There’s a lot of posters that come on with preconceived ideas seeking confirmation of what they’re doing is correct, they still plough on regardless and suffer the consequences later.
As an aside, I’ve read “quantum physics for babies” and now i understand that perfectly but i reckon that crypto currency and secret key stuff has been made up by clever people to make money off stupid people lol
.
You Nick on the other hand make me chuckle as you’re obviously pretty darn clever and your thought process intrigues me as I never thought building a pond could be made so complicated lol.
I hope it works as you envisage when it’s done, I’d like to see it up and running on completion
The offer of a barrow is still there fella.

That's very true - happy to count myself in amongst those starting with the flawed process of seeking confirmation as my idea must be correct. One filter later.. and I'm getting better at taking advice I do like to think/understand what is the problem it's attempting to solve when advice is given - so I don't immediately take it 'because that's the way it's done', but mull over and try to dig into evidence driven reasoning. I always find myself thinking if there's a better way.
The pond will get there - just being 'adopted northerner', the idea of spending that much on PVC pipes that never get seen irks me to the bone, so I've spent a while chewing through ideas to reduce that cost however I think there's limited returns in that. That's due to be ordered on Friday but spent the entire week running around supporting banks so didn't get around to it - I need to make time and I have holiday booked for the dig
Hehe yep the wheelbarrow - that's more about needing one anyway just so happens the first job will be the pond.
We still have some time cryptographically speaking, however how long it takes for large organisations to deliver and their supply chains means we're already in that 'itchy' space in the timeline. Especially when virtually all secure web/mobile/IoT connections use RSA to negotiate keys for TLS/SSL/HTTPS, to secure identity of what you're connecting to, and for digital signatures.
I was at the RSA conference in San Fran at the start of the year - when a security vendor said "why do we need quantum when we have Triple DES" ... globally, the nations' security agencies have deprecated Triple DES years ago.. I'm not sure what is scarier ... the threat of quantum or "experts"..14000l, my mutts: Chargoi (2010), Doitsu (2022), Tancho (2022), Kujaku (2022), Hi Utusri (2022)
