If you can hear the motor turning you will need to tighten the nut on the shaft. It has a slip clutch and it works it way loose over time. It needs to be tightened to about 50nm. You really need to use a torque wrench as if you over tighten it you will snap the shaft.

You need to take the mesh off the drum, loosen the big jubilees but leave them in situ but push them to the side. and remove the mesh. A good time to jet wash this.
    remove waste shoot
You will then be able to uncrew the plastic drum and lift out.
The nut will be accessible by opening the motor cover on the outside of the drum
You need to find a way of holding the shaft whilst you tighten, i put the screws back in without the actual drum and used some plumbers wrench to hold it still.
    Use a torque wrench.

Then put everything back together. Took me a good couple hours to do this last year.

When putting back together make sure you don't put the jubilee clips over the UV quartz by mistake.

    Good luck.

Found a couple of pictures which may help you.

This is what the inside of the drum looks like with the waste shoot removed, you can see the two allen key bolt holding the plastic drum in place

The is the end of the shaft which you need to hold in place, as stated i screw the screws all the way back in and use plumber grips to hold them both.

This is the nut on the back of the motor which needs to be correctly torqued up:

I do believe early models have a plastic gear in the gear box, which has now been upgraded to a metal one. If its under warranty you should be able to get a new motor assembly.

The gearbox? Is this in the motor? I’ve to take motor off to view? The motor (green thing) turns about 2mm and stops,, ? It’s a year old and TBH I’ve had nothing but trouble with it,, went back to the supplier on maybe 25 occasions but they’ve dismissed all the issues I’ve had but that’s another story for another day thank you for this pointer too

The silver box contains the gearbox. Ive not taken that apart before. I can't remember where I read about them using plastic gears which have now been replaced with metal. I believe they all come with 2 year warranty so you should be able to get it sorted.

Are these the same as the easy drum if so this happened to my drum and what stopped the drum from turning (pump fed) was crud build up on the silicone seal on the dirty side. Once taken apart and cleaned it worked fine.

Hello not sure if they are the same? I can turn the drum by hand and feel the nut turning below motor, but the motor will not turn the drum? Does anyone know if it’s a gearbox as such or belt type inside? I’m feeling the gearbox if it exists as jammed up

To me that sounds like the the nut isn't tight enough. Which means when the motor is running, but its just slipping.

I did find it you take the mesh off and remove all the water from the drum it may spin, it just can't cope with any weight in the drum. This would likely prove the gearbox is okay and its just the nut which needs torquing up.

Hi I have one of these it's the gearbox cogs yes earlier ones did have plastic cogs for a while but they soon changed back to brass. The brass ones strip teeth as well mine did two cogs it's easy enough to change. I got mine from manufacturers filtreu themselves cost nothing email them. Also Paul at kirkys koi supplies the cogs £10 each if you are desperate call him he is very helpful.

Thank you for your help all of you, new gearbox arrived today and spent the evening putting it all back together and now working as it should, I’d not recommend these filters!! I wrote to filtreau they washed their hands with it as did the company that supplied it! Paul at Korky koi sent new gbox out,, but I’d not recommend purchasing these to anyone ,, other than that thank you all

I have one of these and have had pretty much the same experiences as you. My first motor that came with the filter had the plastic cogs. As did the second one,,, finally got the brass cogs and worked fine. Until the stainless steel shaft broke I have ended up having 3 new motors anew stainless shaft and 2 new screens. Not forgetting the 2 complete filtreau 80 watt UV units. !!!! And as you say the supplier struggled to offer any real help.

    Hi.

Sorry for your troubles. Hope all is good.

I was looking to buy one of these. Although after you comments/problems not so sure. Could you please tell me who was your original supplier? Don’t want to purchase from same place if I do go ahead.

    Thanks
