i use a pond vac all too often...
about every other day to clean the brush chamber, and pull the drain...
but thats what you get for building a pond in haste...
i use the karcher all the time too, in the pond and out of it, for jet washing filter brushes.
but my K4 pulls pond water straight from the clean side of the brush chamber, just chuck the intake hose in... so no need to dechlorinate...

I clean the nexus out once a year. And top pond.
Have a pond vac. But don t use it. To much hassle.
Bottom drain and mid returns clean the pond floor.
Every now and again I put pumps on full.
For 15 minutes.
I purge my bottom drain twice a week
And purge the skimmer ultra sieve 3 twice a week.
Other then that I just watch the fish. With a nice cold beer.
Love it.

Is ST really a magic bullet and if so why are expensive hardware de-chlorinators still manufactured, promoted and sold?
Perhaps a thread of it's own ........ never mind I'll use the search function, must have been done to death in the past.
JimI don't keep fish, I keep water. I don't keep fish, I keep water. I don't keep fish I kee........

St ain’t a magic potion I was told don’t know wether it’s right it can cause ammonia spikes in some ponds if misused having said that I have used the aquasource revitalise as a de chlorinater on the odd occasion once to neutralise pp and twice at the dose to de chlorinate with good results don’t know how the revitalise differs from a st mixture but it works I run a 10 inch 3 pod kp2 super with queni koi pre filter carbon block and char cartridges sliow return into drum on an oase auto top up anything faster than the slow trickle I get small amounts of chlorine I may try making my own st dechlorinator mix and add a small amount weekly never used to test chlorine levels until I started using the aquasource tester which is brilliant

Karchers come with a hose to take water from any container rather than a tap - just take the water from the pond to clean the pond?
And I have not thought about cleaning the bottom of my pond - is it essential? Like the idea of it but then worry that the filters will struggle to clean all the crap out

I use st and it works I trickle in and out.
I put 1 teaspoon full in every 2 days. And have never had a problem.
I used to use 3stage dechlorinator. And a few ended up with ulcers. Because that was nt doing the job.
Now st all the way for me.
Cheap as well.

I know what you mean about using a standard 10" 3 pod.
As the flow rate makes little difference to the level of chlorine it removes.
I think It's all about the depth or thickness of carbon the water passes through.
A single 2.5" 10" cartridge has about an inch of carbon for the water to pass through.
where as a 4.5" is about 2" so double the effective filtration.
Or 2 x standard 2.5" would give the same effective depth of filtration but would not last as long as the 4.5" due to the volume of carbon.
I've ditched the RO as it's too much faff balancing gh and kh.
And I'm using 2 x 3 pod units in line.
1 x sediment, 2 x coconut carbon 1 x chlorplus carbon 1 x spectrum carbon 1 x bone char GAC carbon.

I use a pond vac every week to clean filter, pond bottom (if needed) and facilitate water changes. Vac is used to drain from the bottom of the filter, with inlet feed shut. Then open inlet to create drag rush through pond bottom drain. Repeat until water change percentage is reached. Water replaced via dechlorination filter. It is no hassle, pretty quick and the main advantage for us is we recycle the outlet water into the garden. Fish are unstressed and water quality is excellent.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
