Grow and Show idea 2020-21
11 June 2020
PLEASE SEE NEW THREAD FOR UPDATE
TITLE: UPDATE GROW AND SHOW
Thanks.
ian
Hi everyone,
A few years ago we held a 'grow and show' via this forum with support from Absolute Koi. I would like to organise something similar again so am proposing this idea to forum members to see what appetite there might be. As yet, timescale, cost, koi type, rules, dealer support etc. would have to be determined. However, if there is enough interest, then I am happy to put the work in. Anything we do would also be dependent upon support from a dealer and if the interest is there, I will in the first instance, engage and have these conversations.
As interest may largely depend on koi cost and koi type, I feel whatever we do should be decided by forum members. To this end, if you are interested, please do answer the following two questions either on this thread or by private message. I will leave this idea open until the end of June, review and collate responses and feedback via this thread. If the interest is there, I'll come up with a forum led proposal based on the consensus of responses with regard to the most popular price bracket and koi type. Please do remember we are never going to please everyone!
Q1 - what would be your maximum budget for a tosai in a grow and show challenge (please do bear in mind names will be drawn at random)?
Q2 - what are your preferred top 3 koi for the proposed grow and show?
Thanks for reading and I look forward your responses and seeing where this goes.
Regards,
Ian.

Great idea, I wouldn't enter myself as my pond is too young but in a year or so maybe!

Excuse my ignorance but how exactly does it work?
Do you essentially get a vat of koi of the specified type, age and cost an then get drawn one randomly. Or do names come out of a hat and you take turns to select one (that hasnt already been selected)?

Being relatively new to proper koi keeping this is something I've wanted to give a go since I started so count me in.
Max price for me would probably be £150.
I'd be more interest in koi that are not just about growth, so maybe shiros or showa. I'll throw kujaku in also as its my favourite!

Always wanted to do this but can't guarantee if I can do it this year for various reasons, but you never know.
Max budget would be £200
Koi wise, I've never seen this type of competition involving Chagoi so that would be unique and potentially very interesting.
2nd and 3rd choices would be anything capable of developing well in any water as I feel RO users or those with soft water seem to get an advantage with go-sanke varieties. So basically, anything that isn't go-sanke.

Hi all,
If this proceeds, I would be delighted to supply the koi and work with IMC28 in leading the organising. My Wholesalers next QT release is w/c 22/6 so perfect for 1st and second week in July collection.
Social distancing collection can be observed depending upon UK situation. Koi can be delivered too (subject to Courier operating).
I am based in the Midlands so nice and central.
WhatsApp group amongst participants can be established which will aid communications etc...
Decent % of net profits will he held as a prize - to be determined depending upon participation.
Some of the guys on here will have had koi from me recently so can openly give their opinions as to quality, price and overall satisfaction.
Cheers
GazHobby and business gone but when you’re hooked you’re hooked.
Always happy to help!!

Another dealer is doing it for £85 per koi so £100 seems a good price.
