I'm new to all this but I was thinking it should be more than just about growth, could maybe have 2 or 3 prizes for different categories. I agree theres too many variables in peoples ponds to have different results for heated/unheated etc.
However, I quite like the idea of having varieties with high risk, personally I think the more that can change the more interesting the competition will be. I do understand though people don't want to end up with a mutt, so maybe difficult to find a balance.

Great points being made everyone. I am reading and digesting all your ideas/comments.
I agree .... this wants to be a social / fun event and I will discuss with prospective dealers prize categories etc.....but to reassure it should not just be about growth.
The level of interest is great so thanks everyone. I’ll pull a summary together this weekend of where we have got to so far based on all responses.
cheers everyone.

My opinion is it should be at least tri coloured koi to see development. If it not about growth as you say then single colured Ogon's wouldnt be for me
Maybe 2 colours should be minimum.

When we did the Absolute Koi grow and show with Shiro Utsuri from Omosako the breeder was sent photos of all the Shiro's and he chose the winner which i thought was a good idea. It was obliviously fixed as i didn't win
