help with pond plants
Good morning all.
want to have 2 or 3 pots on the far edge of the pond to add some colour, plant needs to be fish friendly with low leaf/pollen/bloom fall oh and easy maintenance as i have not got a clue where gardening is concerned and in all honesty hate it...... i very much like the look of Dave The Fish garden he has some nice bright small bush like plants, pink and yellow etc, any guidance much appreciated, thanks Steve

there are lots of different plants you can use,
my taste is for more japanese inspired, but there are other varieties that will suit too...
evergreens are probably best if you don't want leaf fall,
small dwarf conifers or small pines trees like mugo mops
azaleas and dwarf rhododenrons, though you have the petal fall after flowering...
or acers,
my acers don't tend to drop thier leaves until end of october/november so i have the pond covers on before then.
they are reasonably cheap to buy small, lots of different colours, and depending on variety willl stay relatively small or you can prune them.
Bonsai look nice on a pond edge too,
but i'm not a fan of the tiny specimens you can buy for extorsionate prices.(i'm too tight)
i'd rather 'make' my own
and have been doing a bit of niwaki/bonsai pruning myself recently.
you can make your own a bonsai quite cheaply and end up with a substantial plant that will improve over the years.

I agree completely with DTF's advice, I have both Viridis and Garnet near my pond. This week I bought Acer Ukigumo that has an unusual freckled green, white and pink leaf colour. There is a lot of choice out there.
One important point before you buy, read the label....make sure it is a small or dwarf variety and not something that will grow into a massive tree.
Also remember, pot plants need regular watering, particularly when the weather is like it is now.
