Black fly larvae
We have a fair bit of algae in the pond and have found some black fly larvae in some of it. The fish spend all day grazing around the edges and the bottom of pond as you'd expect I guess. I was wondering if eating these can cause irritation to koi say if some get into there gills as I've seen some of them flashing every now and then, nothing major but have witnessed it with maybe half the fish we have at different times.

i have the same issue moony and have posted a few times about it, if you look closely on the window or water edge you can see the little squiggly larvae, nothing much you can do about it but like you worry it could be causing issues as mine to have been flashing but had trich and the n flukes, levels of larvae seem to be reducing but still there, mosquito dunks look the way forward but expensive and cannot locate a uk supplier as from the US....

I'm not overly concerned about it at the moment as the scratching is fairly minimal, having just got a microscope I'll be taking some scrapes soon if it continues to double check it isn't something else. I'm guessing they are a good source of food but if it causes flashing then maybe the benefits of them are not worth it.
