I think the problem is that none of the koi companies expected their businesses to have such a huge spike as a result of everyone being at home.

I am intelligent enough to realise this. BUT I cannot be in a position where I am expected to send back a key part of my filtration system and have a ‘gap’ in my ponds life support. Can you imagine if hospitals had this done to them and a dialysis machine went wrong then they say well we’ll have to take you off the dialysis to send it back to be repaired because it’s got a little leak and hopefully you’ll survive until it is returned and we can plug you back in?

As a retailer myself, I know some Retailers, Wholesalers, Couriers and Manufacturers (globally) are now starting to see the impact of COVID-19 on availability, stock and replenished supplies due to demand starting to outstrip supply. Combine this with reduced manufacturing , furloughed staff and decent weather and the challenges soon arise. IMHO this is not the fault of anyone in the ‘chain’ (including customers of course), however on occasions communication can be improved which usually helps and is often met with customer appreciation.

Being honest with people (even at the risk of losing a sale), responding to customers and prospective customers in a timely manner along with thinking of ‘solutions’ has served Aurora Koi well so far and my business continues to be built on honesty and customer service ahead of profit. Honesty can be an expensive policy so never expect it from cheap people. I have many repeat customers and plenty of future customers due to how we have dealt with them during these more challenging times.

Whilst I (unfortunately) cannot deal with Draco due to their retailer distribution clashes (which in all honesty on my part is a shame as I know I could serve them well) this is the first negative comment i have heard to-date about them, their product and Director. That said, I do agree with DS, the contract is with the Retailer first and foremost and I strongly suspect this will get resolved when the right people get the chance to review matters, however the Retailer needs to take responsibility for leading this.

DD whilst far from ideal, in the meantime pal, think of a solution / option whilst your issue gets resolved for the mechanical filtration - Cheap sieve (someone on here may lend one...), temporary box of static K1 etc... also reduce the feed and keep a very close eye on water parameters too if you have not started to already.

    Cheers

    Gaz

If you have tried to buy a wheelbarrow recently...

However in terms of demand and supply - dropping quality isn’t going to be good strategy. People will wait for quality based on reputation.

Amazon effect on expectation? Well yes, but that simply goes back to quality again

So I have spoken to Tony this morning and have to say I am impressed by his attitude. Very reasonable and we have a way forward, had a good chat and I’ve decided I am going to stick with Draco and I’m looking forward to getting my midi bio next week!

I know of someone who went to B&Q recently to buy a wheelbarrow and they have a policy now of you must use a shopping trolley, they couldn’t decide which was the best way to do this, trolley in the wheelbarrow or wheelbarrow in the shopping trolley I kid you not.
