Bakki shower install
Hi all hope you are all well on this glorious bank holiday,my current setup is 1600 gallon pond BD to sieve 20000 speed fish vario pump to bead filter t piece to bakki with inline valve to control flow and the other end to 55w uv back to mid water pond return,my question is would I be better having separate pump out of pond to feed shower as I'm concerned I will be pushing to much water through my uv
Thanks
Arny

I would,
But wants to be prefiltered.
Shower wants lots of flow. Most can handle 20,000 lph or more.
UV will restrict the flow or use lots more watts getting the turnover you want.

I dave thanks for replying ,I currently have pump sent at maximum flow to get as much flow over the shower,do you think I could make another output from cetus sieve then pump to shower

How are you thinking of working it?
as an addition to bead filter, or to eventually replace it?
Either I'd consider teeing around the UV, to reduce flow through UV, but re connecting both outputs to the shower and cap off midwater return.
That way you get balanced flow through UV but max flow over shower.
I'm not too up on beads.
Don't know how much you put through it?
Is the bakki tee before or after bead?
Does it restrict flow much?

Hi dave I plan to have both running ,t is after bead just after t is 1 1/2 isolation valve where most of the flow goes over shower and rest through uv,this was the only way I could think of controlling flow through uv other than separate pump just for shower

I can guarantee that you won`t be getting a flow of 20000 lph.
If you work out your losses through pipe, valves, fittings etc, I would be surprised if you are getting 15000lph
Try using this to get an idea of where you are in terms of headloss and then compare to your pump curve data:

I run my shower from an Aquosis Skimmer.
The top tier is just foams to deal with the dirt. The shower is running from a Pond Xpert 10000 Vario pump and is working great.
I reckon I`m getting about 8000lph max.

hard to figure out what might be best...?
still lots of variables in there...
size of bakki shower and recommended throughput?
actual flow through bead filter?
running bead then shower does that remove most of the fines giving cleaner water to the shower?
but then i'd imagine that a bead restricts flow a lot.
if your only need say... 8,000 lph actual output through bead then UV, and you have a cetus sieve @18,000 lph rating,
then theoretically you have 10,000 litres per hour spare through put to put an extra pump for the shower on the sieve.
as long as your happy with the prefiltering of the sieve to go to the shower.
you really need to know by measuring actual output with a jug, what is going where.
to get the maxium out of it without over stretching the sieve.
my pond had a vario 10,000 pumping to to filters through UV, then a Heater,
and i thought i was getting good flow until i measured actual output with a jug,
and found the 10,000 was only pushing around 4,000 lph at 100%
so swapped out to a vario 20,000 and am still only getting 7500 lph at 80% due to restrictions.

pug has a very impressive veg filter on his pond, have a look at some of his his youtube videos....
