Why do the fish flash in the evening?

my water parameters are spot on, fish have been treated for trich and flukes of late, fish are much happier and eating very well but around 5.30pm onwards for a couple of hours they start to flash, some worse than others, i will scrape again but hardly flash during the day but the evening they go for it a bit........ i have no plants or anything that can create a spike / dip in pH etc, anyone else having the same ? and no there not wearing rain macs before you ask

Flashing after feeding to clear the gills?
    Ph swing?
I know you don't have plants ECT..
algae are microscopic so even pond walls scrubbed clean will have some algae on them.

ph swing is hard to see without a digital monitor.
7.5 to 7.3 is a 150% increase in acidity and most test kits can't easily distinguish a shift that small, Taken at different times of the day.

Or they could just be doing it because it gets your attention...
    They are curious creatures....
mine have been playing water polo with the melon slices allday today...

As above but they also flash after food due to a temporary increase in ammonia. You suggest your levels are "spot on" but whatever your readings are, the ammonia level increases when you feed them. This is not necessarily the cause of the flashing but there will be ammonia. Even if your pond is over filtered by a dozen times, the ammonia still has to travel from Mr. & Mrs. Fish to the filters.

Unless you have BHM where it gets zapped by infra red rays like the Death Star vs Alderaan.

As Dave the fish says, pH will be different between day and night and Mr. Fishy no likey any changes.

    Just to rule this out....

Did you check your treatment had caught all the flukes / trich? You didn't give details but one of the flukes (can't remember which but you can look it up) lays eggs so you need to treat twice.

Given the time of day factor, it's most likely to be pH movement and/or ammonia if thats shortly after they are fed but I would still double check for flukes just to rule it out.

Try checking pH with a high/low range PH kit (they are more accurate) early in the morning and late in the afternoon and see what the difference is.

If anything it would be higher in the last afternoon.

    Good evening,

yes mainly after evening feed they flash about, they had 2 doses for flukes like they did for Trich, i am hopeful they are clear now of pests but will scrape again this week to double check, thanks Steve.
