    How much oxygen?

Hi again to all you isolating superstars!!!
I have done an oxygen test on my pond and as expected I’m running between 9-10mgl which I know is more than adequate. What oxygen are you running into your ponds? I have a shower over the bio side of my filter, 2 aerated BD’s running constant and have just added a blade. I am wondering if I can turn off my BD’s, maybe apart from high summer, and run a more efficient quieter pond. Not sure how the tenants will take it and don’t want to run low on dissolved oxygen so I would have to monitor it if I decide to give it a try.

Mine is 10.5 at the moment.

Aside from the Nexus I run two airstones for a few hours on and off through daylight hours. Waterfall as well.

    Cheers

You will also have to monitor the fish.
I turn my air of at the bottom drain. And my fish go nuts. They don t like change. They
Attack the drain and can damage them selfs. I now leave it permanently on because of this.
I have a nexus with air plus a shower.
    And water shute.

Its more likely the lack of water movement that upsets them.

Thanks guys, I’ll have to trial it at the weekend then so I can keep an eye on them and test the water again on the Sunday night. I know they can never really have enough in the types of setup we use but there is no need to over do it. Plus I’ll have some oxygen in the bank for any treatment that needs doing.

also, will lowering the amount of oxygen lower the PH in any way?

I can turn my air up to on he bottom drains but I’m always worried about straining the pump. Do you have a bypass where you can release a bit of pressure on the pump?

I have a manifold with little taps and bleed out of one of them taps. So I dont stress the air pump. There is other ways. I think roy has just done his air in the last few weeks

I run a 1/2" air line to my drain, and I have a tee off to an old radiator valve that I use to control "bleed off".
This gives me total control on the amount of air to the drain from 0-100%.

Also, the longer line you have on your bleed, reduces the noise.

You can also just put an air stone on the end of the air line and that helps to make it quieter.

I did that with mine to save back pressure on my air pump and put the air stone in a waste water tank and the bubbling water is good for cleaning the muck out of the skimmer basket

could even stick that in a water chamber then too or my leaf basket to help move it along. Thanks

I tried, once, to run an open tap off a manifold but the noise produced by the pressurised air coming out of the tap was horrendous and had to turn the tap off ASAP lol I thought the high frequency sound was going to shatter the windows or my glasses if I didn't act fast enough

i suppose you don’t think about that side of it until you do it. My first thought was just a bleed of tap but makes total sense to just try and use that energy instead.

A friend of mine has a muffler that I can screw into the other side of my air line as I have two valves with 8mm nipples, will let you know how effective it is

I run 2 air pumps, but one at a time

    EA70 just runs the bio
EA130 Runs the Bio and both bottom drains

They switch electrically and have plumbed them in so they can't back pressure the other pump, no need to vent anything as it all goes to something
