Planning a new build adivice needed
Hi all
i will be moving house if this lockdown ever ends
ii intend to build a 2000-2500 half below half above ground pond
the last pond I built was block brick fibreglass and this was my intentions again.my missus has now said we might move again in 5 years so now I'm considering a concrete collar with concrete blocks above ground
what I can't get my head round is if I dig 2.5 ft down is it just the earth that is used as the pond walls? Does the pond water pressure keep them in place?
if I had to drain down below the collar water level do I risk the walls collapsing?
i will be doing a concrete base and b/b and going boxweld liner this time just to keeps costs down in case I have to up and move again
live checked back on loads of builds but can't get my head round it
any advice welcomed
thanks in advance

yes the earth acts as the pond wall. Just make sure is stable.
Just a thought, if you are probably going to move again, whey not consider an EZ Pond or Denby Koi Ponds fibreglass pond?
You can always move it with you.
Or, failing that, build a sleeper pond with boxweld.

Yep did think of that similar to what I had where I'm living at the moment
the big problem for me at the new house is access I'd probably have to get it craned over the top of house
then trying to sell on again poses it own problems so whatever way I go it's lost money
just really enjoy having a pond and keeping koi

If you are likely to move again, I`d avoid excavating as at least you won`t have to consider filling a hole when you do.
Maybe you could build a sleeper pond that could be dismantled fairly easily and moved with you?

Trouble is you need 4 ft depth but don’t want 4ft sticking up in the air

Mine are in this temporary to make the move easier
It’s not pretty I know but finding it very easy to maintain and fish seem happy
Plus added bonus it’s heated up quicker as only 30” deep

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
