New to Spawning
Hi
So this year I have some very fat looking fish so I am probably going to have some spawning going on. My question is I know its between May and June but is there a specific water temp that starts the action its been a warm spring so I am wondering when to have brushes on standby.

can be any time of the year if they are gravid and conditions send them into it
ideally for survival its in the time frame suggested, but undue stress will bring it on
a lot of mine spawned over a week ago, over 3 weeks of non stop clear blue skies had the pond warm and after a top up with a hose, many days of spawning occurredthe slow pond build thread

Mine quite often spawn before or after a thunderstorm as the oxygen levels change due to the atmospheric conditions.

Hmm, I live in the Caribbean so the temperature is pretty warm all year round, I’m wondering how I can manipulate conditions to get them in the mood. I’m thinking of doing a water change at 10- 11pm as my koi usually spawn at dawn. What do you think?

I've not tried to get them to spawn I just go out to check the pond and feed them in the morning and find eggs everywhere and then find out there was a big storm over night that I slept right through lol
So sorry I can't suggest anything that may help you unfortunately.

Referring to fancy goldfish because that's where my main spawning knowledge is.
Put the males and female together late afternoon then do a late evening water change using water that is a couple of degrees colder than the tank/pond. I used to put the old fashioned white mop heads in the water (cheaper that spawning brushes) Then put a heater on late at night to bring it up 2 degrees by morning and they would usually, but not always spawn at around sunrise.

Might be different for you guys where the weather is warm all year because I guess there is no specific time of year.
Mine always spawned in May or early June if kept outside, or between march and May if kept inside.
Once I had a spawning on the last day of February but that was a one off.

yes, you can trick loads of aquatic species into spawning, a stress event will bring it on if they are anywhere near, its a survival trick, the adult might be killed by what ever is happening, but there is a chance that one or two out of many thousands of eggs might survive to the point where those genetics make it to adulthood.

turn your air on and spray a hose over the pond over night it may kick them off, assuming you have males in the pond

same waters fine, but ideally a little warmer or cooler to incite a slight stress shock

Hey guys just an update I got her to spawn today. Yesterday I took out all the males and left her alone in the spawning tank. I turned off the lights later around 10 pm and this morning when I woke up I noticed that she spawned some eggs on her own so I got 2 males and put them in. She then spawned all her eggs.

Thank you, I don’t even try to hatch all the eggs, I don’t have the facilities to do so. I only hatch the eggs from the ropes. Ammonia was low I just have to wait and see when they start hatching but I alway worry about whether or not they will hatch.
