Lowest Temp for FMG to treat for Costia?
I have always followed Duncans guidance to only use FMG when treating for Costia on my own pond, but I have the benefit of being heated.
I have a friend who's currently at 8 degrees but found Costia during scrapes and some of the fish are not in a good way. (Redness kicking in and very lethargic).
Not wanting to salt as looking at 3900 gallons.
What is the lowest temperature that people have successfully used FMG without bad consequences?
Thanks in advance.

I was talking to the guys in koi logic about this last time I visited and they said a consistent 10 degrees at least so may be worth waiting until sunday as no doubt with the weather due it will be over that by then.

And a good suggestion. But if there to bad and on the verge of dieing. I would treat now. As it can be a fast killer costia. It acts more slowly in colder weather.
I copied and pasted this over from nt labs
: What is the minimum water temperature I can use a treatment?
A:*The minimum "effective" water temperature when applying a treatment/medicine is 10 degrees Celsius. At lower temperatures, everything happens more slowly. Below this temperature treatments may be less effective. Please note that ALL fish keepers have a duty of care to the fish and it may be necessary to treat anyway.

Don't know if it helps but I've been treating whitespot with FMG in my unheated pond for the last three weeks, started off around 9 degrees but things chilled off again part way through and temps went down as low as 6 celsius for a few days.
Not Ideal by far but no adverse reactions on the fish I'm pleased to say. I didn't have any choice but to treat really but my main worry would be effectiveness of treatment at lower temperature. I've just gone for an extra fourth and hopefully final dose as the temps are getting better and I'm hoping that will catch any straggling parasites that haven't completed their lifecycle.

Lowest Temp for FMG to treat for Costia?
I believe this is to treat bacterial diseases and Costia as well as being used as a pre treatment for other parasites treatments as it helps to strip the mucus before treatment for flukes.
My understanding is that this should not be used below 12.5 c so has a higher temperature requirement to FMG
This thread is pretty old now, as temps have raised I would be surprised if anyone in uk was below 10 now.
I’m currently holding 15 over night

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
