Thread: Liners

    Liners

Hi all. Just after a bit of advice. Currently in build progeess and putting waterfall together. I will need a liner 11m x 5m and was wondering would a 0.5mm thick pvc liner be OK? The substructure is blockwork and slabs, will have an underlay and overlay with liner. On top of the liner/overlay will be york stone...... About 10 ton. Obviously the water fall is not fully submerged and will not always be on, so can I save money going pvc. The main pond will be epdm.

    Hi,

if you you are going to use a liner, I would suggest a Butyl one and don’t scrimp on it mate.

The thicker the better, however that can make folding corners subs edges more difficult.

Personally I would strongly recommend FG, however I appreciate this is costly and not everyone wants to commit such £££. However if you ‘get into the hobby’ I’m pretty sure you may wish you FG’d from the off.

Happy to help source any equipment you may be considering EXCEPT LINER (sorry).

The liner is just for the waterfall, so cant really be fibre glassed. As the liner is not holding in a volume of water, and possibly only on at weekends, I thought it would be OK - the UV coated PVC liners are guaranteed not to rot. The only downside I can read is that they are not as flexible as Butyl, EPDM. Any further comments greatly received. Pic of waterfall attached

Hi Mabbs, that is a big waterfall.
Why not cement render it all with some fibres would help and then G4 it which will waterproof and stop cement leaching.
I have done that in the past and used a paint brush to get the render into the corners and shape it.

I had a small water fall on my pond until a couple of years ago.
It was fibreglassed and then cemented the stones and rocks in, before being sealed it with G4.
    lasted years.
Not really sure it added to the cost much as they did it with the pond.

That's a good idea. There will be about 10 ton of yorkstone covering the waterfall to make it look natural, so cementing it may fracture. The liner with an overlay, underlay works out to be about £300.....may investigate the cement route tho. Thanks
