Pick your team
How does everyone decide what they want in their ponds? Do people go for variety or just get a pond full of favourites? I have tried so far to have a little bit of everything I like but I can't help but notice how amazing ponds with mostly red varieties like kohaku and showa look.My current stock is:
Mirror Carp
Shusui
Yamabuki Ogon
Chagoi which is almost pink
Kin Ki utsari
Beni kikokuryu
Goshiki
Asagi
Showa
Obviously because all but 3 of my fish are between 12cm and 24cm there isn't really any dominating colour as you don't see the smaller ones with the air on really!Really looking forward to the pond reaching 15 degrees or so then I can feed more and hopefully see some growth before winter!

Same as you mate I like abit Of everythjng il be suprised if I ever have two of the same type of fish! Just to many to choose from! So for me I’d like all mine to be different! That said I now have some koi that I wasn’t intested in at the beginning that are slowly becoming my favourites! Currently looking at gin rin sarogoi or gin rin chagoi! But like you all my fish are small so I don’t want to get to many and when they grow on be over crowded! But it hard not to buy more fish

10 rudd
1 tench
1 large grass carp.
6 largish offs.
1 goldfish
1 chagoi large 24 years old
1 doitsu chagoi. Large
2 golden ogons middle to large one changing to kill kutsuri

3 matalics middle size 13 inch
1 sushi 12 inch

Jeez Fred that's an amazing pond mate and collection of fish, i am chomping on the bit to buy more fish and really frustrating that i cannot get any for maybe 3 months maybe more listening to the news..... i wanted to buy a chag and collect my Asagi which i have already waited patiently for since last autumn (being grown on by Drew at Koi water life) ....... my 8 fish look very lonely and when they feed off the bottom the pond looks empty as you cannot see any fish at all..... filters have done a year now and i think its all ready for a slow introduction. of more beauties....
I have the following and also like single colours but need to mix it up now, we have
Mukashi Ogon
Matsuba's x 3 filter starters from garden centre,
Doitsu Sanke
2 x Kohaku
Karashigoi
Would like - Asagi, Chagoi, Shusui, Kujaku, Showa's, Goshiki, linear mirror, ghostie and some metallicsLast edited by smartin; 30-03-2020 at 10:44 AM.

You should be mature filter wise now. Mate.
That's the way to do it though. Introduce them slowly. And you will find in time what your pond and setup can take lol
As soon as you can get a couple. Give it a week or so then add another. Testing all the time. As time goes on you get to trust your water parameters. And fish.
I tested this week first time since October.

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
