Hi Utsuri purchased July 2018 as Tosai measuring 15cm:

Growth hasn't been great with him now measuring 35cm, but he's one of the few Tosai I've bought that hasn't deteriorated. I actually asked for advice/critique on here before purchasing it and was told it the speckles will only get worse and it wasn't a good choice. I bought it anyway and that advice was essentially correct, but the depth of colour on this koi more than makes up for the speckled sumi in my eyes.

This is the Tosai Kirin I picked up last April at 24cm. It looked absolutely stunning in the flesh:

Almost one year on at Nisai and she's well into the mid to high 40's. Definitely the fastest growing Koi I've ever had. This was one of the most undeveloped Kirin's I could find, with my thinking being that those with darker reticulation would get too dark, but actually the reticulation has faded if anything and I'm wondering if it will ever come through.

Only 1 mirror, the larger one and 1 Common, the pond is 3 feet deep so you are also seeing some shadows on bottom. Will try the mobile in a sandwich bag over the weekend if its sunny.

It's a brand new variety by Wada that came from a cross between a 94cm female Nezu Ogon and a Kujaku.

They were first sold in the UK last year and I got one from the very first importation. Just had to have one.

But who knows if they'll become popular or just disappear like most new varieties do.

Gatwick koi have a few in stock this year on the website, a lot more expensive than the one I bought and I don't think they've sold well and don't think his photos do them justice.

very Nice RS - A Kujaku is on my wish list for this year, i really like them, i do like a heavy scalation / netting pattern on Koi like the Asagi etc, i have yet to have one like this in my pond ironically, I have spent hours and hours trawling the net looking at available koi over the past year and i have to say i think Wada has bred some stunning fish, its a name that appears quite a lot.....

I spend most evenings looking over the websites of available koi and trying to decide what I want next. It has to be another showa or a kohaku I think as I need more red.

I suspect Asagi deteriorate in hard water, as do shusui. Kujaku would be a good shout. Both Wada and Omasako breed fantastic quality ones.

I found the same.... The varieties I wanted most I didn't buy at first as I wanted to learn more so I could pick a good one when the time came.

A Showa was one of those koi, which I have now but I still wonder if I should have held out for a better one....
