Thread: Water Company

    Water Company

Last year, I added 5 new koi to my pond which then required more food and more water changes and I also had a new lawn laid which needed a lot of watering. Pumping my pond water through my lawn sprinklers was the best way to do this, but as I’m on a water meter, I was expecting an increased water bill. What I was not prepared for, was a bill for nearly half a million litres (447,000l). This is when the water company (Affinity) really stepped up. First, I received a text warning me of an increased meter reading and arranging for someone to come round and check for a leak. After a leak was confirmed I called Homeserve to fix it which required a visit from Polygon to trace, and a builder to dig up my bathroom’s concrete floor and fix the leak. Affinity called several times during this period to check if the leak was fixed, and once it was I had to send a meter reading, Two weeks later, another text to request a further reading.and I was told that they would calculate a ‘leak allowance’ refund for the lost water. I was expecting a few hundred quid for the last six months, but what I got was a refund back dated to 1918 for £1900!
What gets me is that I had to do very little, no forms to fill, no phone calls to make. They pushed me to fix the leak, text and emailed to request meter readings, and sent £1900 straight to my bank account without me lifting a finger, great customer service. Now I have to get the insurance company to fix my bathroom floor, which will not be so simple.
