Running costs
Not long had my energy bill in from EDF which due to the pond has increased from previous year.... Went on Uswitch today and managed to get a much better deal which should save me around £480 a year, crazy isn't it, tried to remain loyal and EDF tried to reduce my current costs but could not get near i know its ball ache but it definitely now seems the right thing to do each year and jump from deal to deal.....i was on some blue price freeze until May 2021 with EDF now moving to Green network energy on their snow surprise v5 tariff, electric day goes from 24.51 to 14.67 and gas from 3.66 to 2.49 big difference!! fixed for 12 months.

24.51p/kWh!
thats a mental price mate!
much better deal now @14.67/kWh though....
i've been with scottish power for a while now, always on a deal.
if you look on martin lewis web site, you can only get the best deals by going to a comparison website.
suppliers can't offer you the deal even over the phone.
when my last (really good) 3 year fixed deal ended in october last year
scottish power offered me a 'deal' which was an £80 a month increase!
so i went on uswitch and got a 6 month deal (super saver april 2020) with my provider scottish power, that was only a £20 a month increase.
the day after i switched i got an email from scottish power with an 'exclusive offer' that worked out cheaper and was fixed for over 2 years....
(exclusive help beat cancer fix and save march 2022) 13.22p/kWh peak and 7.01p/kWh economy 7 and 2.75p/kWh Gas
so i switched tariff again within 24 hrs....Last edited by davethefish1; 18-02-2020 at 02:45 PM.

I'm with octopus energy which was the cheapest for us and I don't think its on comparison sites but may be wrong. If anyones interested I can forward a link which gets you £50 credit and myself too which obviously brings your bills down by £50 that first year and further for anyone else you refer.

Crazy situation with these deals, in all honesty when EDF told me that my deal was the best they could offer I just believed them, now looking into it myself like I did yesterday for a couple of hours it was the best couple of hours I spent as its going to save me a lot of money going forward...… I will for sure investigate more going forward on these matters, my DD was £113 increasing to £133 now decreasing to £80 / £85 !!! happy days.

You do have to be careful when switching as some companies charge a “fine” to leave, some of them I’ve seen are around £80

Hi BCC, yes your right its £25 per fuel if I leave before 12 months is up, my EDF had no EEFee's..
Dave the fish - its only me and the wife here now as both daughters have left home, mind you there here with my 4 grandchildren roughly four times a week lol for lunch etc and along with the inlaws they are all here every Wednesday night for dinner!!, the kids eat us out of house and home, we need to get shares in yogurts !!! man those kids can eat and the oldest is only 4 in March.....house has had walls and loft insulated, new windows and doors throughout etc and new radiators so its quite a cosy 3 bed semi.
AJM - £240 Notes a month, blimey mate that's steep what's your tariff??, we do use our log burner at times in the living room but often have the heating on in the evening, we have a few rads turned off mind in rooms that are not used....Last edited by smartin; 19-02-2020 at 01:02 PM.

Solid fuel is only heat in the house runs rads . As you say we have a few turned off tho spare bedroom kitchen is off coz it's always red hot in there coz of cooker and chimney . In winter it costs 32 a week in coke but that's on 24/7 . On a key meter atm about 30 quid a week

Depending on if you get it on a Friday night mate hahaha . Need to start shopping around for electric like. In the summer fire is never on as have a immersion heater for hot water so it's just the electric that's worrying me again the moment

Running heater at low temp?
Covering the pond with polycarb should be enough to stop water temps dipping below 6C for the most...
