    Retro bd mod

After yet more advice haha . I have a retro bd which is running 2 inch pipe does any one know if I can modify it to run 4inch . A reducer would be pointless as it would still be restricting to the 2 inch ?? . . Dont wanna rip the pond apart to install a proper bd

I agree with john a reducer. the only other way I can think off. is like I did for my skimmer. I drilled it out to 3 inch from 1 1\2 inch. then put a pvc pond flange in and then sealent everything up. been running now 3 1\2 years no leaks. I did nt have the space in skimmer for 4 inch hole. so went 3 inch then put a 3 inch to 4 inch reducer on. then the rest of the pipe work to ultra sieve is 4 inch
    one of these.https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251040216825 gh

you would have to have room though. and I also taped the full bottom to stop cracking of the plastic bottom. it worked. whether I was lucky I just don't know.

So this is what I've got . I was hoping I could have taken the 2inch out and drilled it out to 4inch . Seems but dont know till I take it apart that it's just a 2inch flange to a flat plate with a straight pipe up thought the dome

Put 4 inch 90 degree bend straight into the top, Mark the top round the pipe, cut it out, solvent weld pipe in, simples, will look horrible tho with big pipe running around in your pond, unless you using gravity from bottom drain I don't see the point just use stronger pump outside the pond

    You have lots of options.
Option1 Cut the hole out. Add a 4" pvc pipe and sealant, ct1, ms290, gold label tiger seal etc.
Option2 cut the hole. check the retro bd for some markings and figure out what plastic it is. Buy a 4" pipe of the same plastic on ebay. Melt the two together using a soldering iron and off cuts from the hole material.
Option 3. Ditch thr retro BD. get a 4" pvc pipe. Cut slots in it. Pvc weld a larger 12" diammeter pvc sheet to the bottom of it so it sits on the bottom like the old one did.

    Brain wave:
£20 kockney koi bottom brain. Turn it upside down. Add your bottom diffuser. (or make one, its just spacers and a sheet of plastic) Job done. Nice and neat.

You may be able to drill straight through the flange on the upside down bd and use stainless screws in to the retros bottom plate.
    Or
Buy a liner bottom drain with the plastic fitting ring to match the bd. Make, buy, scavenge something for enough 10mm spacers to match the screw holes. Then glue/sealant a larger diameter sheet of plastic to the fitting ring. That would make a new flat diffuser to match the upside Down bd.

Have a play about with the bits in front of you. You'll figure something out.
