    Pergola or no pergola

I'm debating whether to build one over the pond but I can't decide to or not, wife's not too keen, and to be honest I think I'd rather just put some jump guards around it like feline has done.

My garden is south facing so it's sun all-day when it's out so probably would be best to put one up and if i was to I'd put a tinted polycarb on the top, there are a few herons about too not that I've seen one since the rebuild but I'm sure that will change soon as the covers come back off

Help me out guys Pergola or no pergola

Am north facing and no herons but I do fancy building one on my pond like but with 2 full sides as mine is pushed in a corner of the garden and just leave the curve open in the garden as you say with a poly roof to help with leaves and dust

It truly depends on what you want a pergola for?

I use mine to provide supports for me to grow grape vines, also in summer (my pond sees sun virtually all day) I have the fittings in place to mount a sail shade, as my pond gets too hot, its in a polytunnel under my pergola, there is also netting over the pergola for when I remove the poly cover!

    Stay Lucky

Same here we are in full sun all day so the koi are always on the far side as that gets a bit of shade . The pergola helps to keep out that heron that goes over every day down here and gives better shade .

I had one built to shade the water from the Sun to help control water colour issues / weed etc and being near the coast have a few herons due to nearby lakes and quite a few seagulls that will if hungry enough try to take a fish......I also have a lot of moss on the roof that the birds pick at and it falls off in clumps, it also stops bird crap and other nasties falling into the water but thats my view and its of course personal preference and of course you can hang nice koi decorative goodies off it

My garden is south facing so covered,it does make it a bit darker but not too much.

I too had heron problems but not now and I like it covered.

That would be my main reason too mate.

Funnily enough, the missus really wants one, there's just more important things to spend money on, plus its unlikely to increase value of your home if like me it's not your forever home.
