I have read some previous posts about Israel koi losing colour when they get larger and saying that they dont grow as large.

This one on eBay looks like a beauty

    https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?m...2F264634093080

At 26 its not going to win largest koi but its colours are vivid

I probably wouldn't buy Israeli Koi simply due to being influenced by everyone else. 2nd hand Israeli Koi on eBay definitely don't look as nice quality as Japanese Koi at the Dealers, but then, nor do a lot of 2nd hand Japanese Koi.

I showed a picture of my Tosai Tancho Showa to a Koi Dealer. Asked what he thought of it and he said, very nice fish with good potential. I asked him to choose a favourite between it and one he had for sale for 475. He admitted mine looked better in the photo but said he couldn't put a value on it without knowing the bloodline.

I then told him it was British Bred, he said in that case it's worthless.

I told him the blood line, which is exactly the same bloodline Kase breeds his Showa from, and he just said Kase's Koi are Japanese bred, yours is not.

This proves to me that it really is all about snobbery.

This is my British Bred Tancho Showa from Davej's spawning, randomly picked as a colourless fry with no idea how it'd turn out:

And this is a Japanese bred one for 475, admittedly the Tancho spot is closer to how it should be but I think it will look too small when the fish grows:

Might just be bias but even though mine is far from perfect, I prefer it.

Just goes to show how we are all suckered into believing we have to buy Japanese Koi and everything else is inferior.

I'm suckered in more than most tbh.

If you bought a pair of amazing Japanese breeding Koi the offspring would somehow be worthless, but if the Japanese breeder bred that same pair the offspring would be expensive and people will pay it (including me).

British bred goldfish are generally much higher quality than imported ones (not always mind, China produce stunning Orandas) but despite this people find it exotic to buy Chinese/Thai imported fancy goldfish over the British ones, even though British ones do a lot better in British water.

Being a fish novice (and now skint lol) Id probably just buy what I liked irrespective of where it was from. Id draw the line at the local garden centre as they mostly look a bit scabby lol.
I like a lot of the Polish fish as it goes from Malcom at Maple Koi (he posts on here)
He does some lovely Metallics by the way.
For the time being Ill probably be on the scrounge for half a dozen freebies or cheapies come the spring...hint hint lol

With you on that 100% about those Polish metallics which are from Yoshikigoi farm. His metallic Ochibas are the nuts, but I've not seen many of the best ones make it over to the UK. The prices are good value too.

I wouldn't think twice about buying when the right one comes along.

Yours would win hands down RS in my book mate.
Growing into a cracking fish. When I get a fish it gets bought for me. Don t matter what it is.
I have a mid to large grass carp. That when it comes into the window. It stuns me.
Very shy fish. Its scaling is second to none.
I would nt swap it for any koi. At any price.
The name of the game is. In my opinion
In the eye of the beholder.
I love a nice matalic. You don t see them about like you used to. My old pond used to be full of them.
I used to have a lot of jap koi. But now all I buy is Israeli koi. And I now buy in mix bunches. With not a clue of what I am getting. I like the challenge of getting the ugly duckling ending up like a swan.
Plus it's a hell of a lot cheaper

Would just add to my previous comment - they have a lot of really nice fish in store between 150 and 300 , which aren't that well represented on the website . Worth a visit , if you can get there !
