    Had a right result.

Facebook - 98% of the time the news feed is full of people talking absolute rot, but occasionally on the sales pages you can find a gem. For me, yesterday someone advertised some free Jap koi as they are shutting down the pond and luckily it happened to be the sister of someone I worked with so I think I managed to get ahead of the bombardment of messages they received.
I popped in after work to see the fish but the sun had already set and so the viewing of the fish was extremely limited with my phone light, so I came back this morning with a couple in mind I thought I would take.
Arriving this morning it all went out the window and I spent a good half an hour observing all the fish for any obvious signs of disease etc but they all looked very tidy indeed.
In the end, out of the 12 or so fish available I took one of the bigger ones which was a lovely mirror carp (I'm an angler, its in my blood!) and 2 of the youngest Koi rather than taking the bigger ones which were up to 20 years old. The two I took had come from avenue fisheries in Bedford a year or so back and as someone else was coming Monday to take the whole lot I figured the older bigger koi would be better sticking together.
So enough of the talk, heres the fish I took:
The mirror carp at around 55cm
    IMG_9104.jpgIMG_9108.jpg
And these two koi, a 40cm Shusui and a 38cm Yamabuki Ogon (I think?)

The people didn't advertise asking for money however I offered £50 for them and they took £30 for their grandson, just pleased knowing they will be cared for and enjoyed. Happy days!

I can see why you picked the mirror...
Only an angler would see it...stunning fish.

Would love to have a fully scaled leney in my pond....
You don't have to be a pipefitter to keep koi...
    but it helps...

Funny you say that, I am looking at getting a couple of mirrors from lowerburyfield fisheries in Oxford, they are pure leneys!

They also do 10 little hand sized C1 delivered for £50 when they have them anyway, thats what I have been waiting for but they weren't available yet and tbh 10 is far too many as I don't have a grow on or anything, but they may occasionally do a few bigger ones if you collect them.

Don't know much about the Carp, but the Shusui and Ogon look very clean, and no major shimmies on the Shusui which is a result assuming your in a hard water area. Mine got so many shimmies it turned black in under a year but maybe higher quality ones are less susceptible to it.

Get feeding that Ogon through summer and it should grow loads.

Keep an eye on your water parameters regularly with these 3 new additions.

Thanks for the advice, I thought they looked the cleanest of the fish so would be the best additions.

Done a water test today to see how things are getting on since having fish, the results were:

    PH - 8
    Ammonia - 0.2
    Nitrite - 0.25
    Nitrate - 2.5
    KH - 13
    GH - 19

so subtle changes since the pond was filled and running pre fish.No water changes as of yet as I feel it would be more detrimental than good to mess about with it now until the weather is better

Not terrible but 0.2 ammonia could be a bit borderline alongside your high PH.

Still worth sticking with 10% weekly water changes I'd say. Try to resist feeding too much, no more than 1 small feed per day, maybe every other day until parameters settle and no food below 8C.
