Just the odd small handful of wheatgerm if they’re active at this time of year.

If it's above 8c in the water I will try them on a little bit of wheat germ, they seem pretty hit and miss below 10c as to whether they'll take it or not. However, I did throw some earthworms in there today and they went mad for them! So maybe I'll get some meal worms.

Ultimate Koi and a few Japan Mix Pellets about 6-7 small hand fulls a day plus i flood light the pond until 8pm in the evening to extend the feeding times.
a pinch of mealworms they have a good protein level over 50% but very high in fat at nearly 30%

and a couple of times a week fresh prawns and mussels. plus i've started adding a lettuce or cabbage once a week for extra greens as i have very little algae in the pond.
and stock is just 3 tosai, 2 nisai in heated pond.

I got my first 2 koi last weekend, a 19cm chagoi and a 18cm Beni Kikokuryu. I have given them small bits of boilie which is fishing bait this week in the evening when I have got home. They have gobbled them up and I even had the chagoi taking a couple of 1mm coppins pellets from my hand and the surface at 10:30pm as it was so mild and she (I think its a she) was so active! Will see how they are shortly today but I will feed them if they look active until it gets really cold
The boilie is a nut based food so very easily digested this time of year

Mine aren’t fussed on boilies, tried some ABS Rock Lobster and they just spat them out lol. Can’t wait to tell Geoff his bait is crap hhhaas.
I think maybe Simon spoiled them when they were in his pond!!
They do love the mealworms I had for the bird feeders though, send them into a right old frenzy. Will have a go with them floater fishing when I get the chance lol

I must admit they spat them out the first time but then were taking the little bits on the drop the second time and actively searching them out on the bottom! I think they wasn't sure what they was to begin with but have figured its a food source. I don't plan to feed them boilie often, I just like to see if the fish eat when I get them as it makes me happy that they are settling in and comfortable. But knowing its a winterised food I know they will be able to digest it with no issues

Edit: since this post I emptied some waste out my filter and it had some boilie poo in so they are digesting it comfortably within a day!
