Just read last night about the oldest koi on record. Quite a famous Koi called Hanako. There was supposed to be a koi in Japan that had been in the same spring fed pond for generations. The family reckoned it was over 200 years old. Some scientists took a scale and tested it. 215 years old! And it lived for another 11 years so 226! Apparently there were numerous koi in that pond over 100!
Last edited by Alburglar; 20-01-2020 at 06:38 PM. Reason: 226 when it died, not when they tested it.

Tony McCann, who was chairman of the BKKS, and his wife Sue, I showed this HARIWAKE several times when they visited Japan, but this HARIWAKE, which died four years ago, was older than me and would have been more than 50 years old at the time of her death.
The main point of interest is the initial texture of the first NISHIKIGOI boom in the 1960s, which is not present in HARIWAKE today. Also, she had the scars of ulcer disease, both from the first epidemic of the 70s and the second epidemic of the 90s. I was of course on the principle of not feeding for five months during the winter months, but until just before she died she had the best summer appetite of any KOI, eating so much that it's backside would rise every year.
※They are said to be retired now and living in Spain, but maybe they have photos or footage from when HARIWAKE was healthy.Last edited by Naoki Atsumi; 30-04-2022 at 12:17 AM.

Happy new year guys I was out looking @ the pond & of course stirred them all up to look for food?
When I got back indoors, I checked my Cameras & took a few of them just cruising about! I thought maybe just a quick update on my Ogon! Still about & looking good.
