Solar powered floating thermometer and wireless digital screen.

Anyone used one of these with any success? Too good to be true at £15? Interested on successful alternatives that achieve the same thing. Mainly aiming at a wireless display of pond temperature inside my house for as cheap as possible. Not bothered about the solar aspect necessarily.

I bought one of these and it was crap. Lasted about 3 weeks and stopped working. Water leaks into the float and obviously you can't see that. A waste of money for me. Perhaps I was just unlucky.

I'll have a look for that.
This is cheap enough to see how long it lasts outside. Not wireless tho.

Here's the thread. Looks feasible. Bit of silcone grease and silica gel.

been using it for 2 months so far no problem.
but as said in trace's thread.
they sit too low in the water right at the seal line.
and the seal edge is quite thin, good enough for weatherproof but not waterproof imo.

i just have mine tied up to and sitting in a gap in the rocks around the edge of my pond so it sits higher in the water.
You don't have to be a pipefitter to keep koi...
    but it helps...

I've used the non solar powered versions of the above and had two fail in the last 18 months. The first one failed in days, just kept dropping the connection. The other worked for a few days then would need to be reset (batteries removed and re-inserted) until the next time, but the screen died about a two months ago so I used the floating part as the reader but that died too a couple of weeks ago.

I ended up buying one of these for £17 https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 it doesn't do decimal places but does allow me to view the temperature on my phone from anywhere plus it doubles up as a smart plug so I can switch something on remotely or set a timer etc. You could even switch on or off something based on the current temperature.

EDIT: it's too early to tell how reliable it is but so far so good.
