Blocked bottom drain (pipe?)
Have a blocked bottom drain (not fully blocked) i have purge valve in the filter hole low down and this is not clearing it.
Pipe run from filter has 3 90 degree bends so best access i think will be from actual bottom drain in pond.
Probably need diver.
Any suggestions or contacts please forward.

Would think it needs rodding from which end I dont know.
Maybe start from the filter end gently and see what happens.John

Sorry Jagg didn't read your first post correctly.
Do you have blanket weed?
Had thought of a stiff wire with a hook on the end down the filter end to try and hook it out, you say you have tried to purge it,,normally that would be enough.John

Have you tried back flushing it, (not ideal as it will blow rubbish back into pond)
Take a powerful pump & feed its outlet into your incoming filter inlet, make sure it's a good connection, the pressure should push back into pond?
Good luck, that's too cold to swim in!

I have a big problem in my pond with leaves and twigs blocking the 4" bottom drain. Eventual resolution was to buy a Karcher drain cleaner extension like this - click here and fed it back down from the filter end. With a powerful enough pressure washer the end pulls itself along the pipe (and mine is 10 metres+). To get round bends simply twist the hose around and the twist will find its way to the end of the pipe and help it around the corners. I also clean out the drain for my RDF which is 2" pipe with a 90 degree bend and it goes around that. The whole process takes around half an hour which is a lot less time than I spent trying to purge the bottom drain.

Thank you will look into this as this looks like the best option short of employing a diver

have now purchased Karcher drain & gutter kit hoping this would succeed however
it was unsuccessful although a good bit of kit could not past the number of 90 degree bends to the blockage just need to locate diver willing to help thanks again everyone.

can you guide it down from the bd? or drop the level via a temporary holding tank to make things easier and hopefully avoid cold water shock

Jagg, what I did once when I had a similar problem and didn't want to work underwater or put the fish into a temporary vat was to drain the pond to wellington boot depth so I could work on the drain with just my arms getting wet. Draining the pond, doing the job and refilling it again with a hose and dechlorinator was all completed in a day so the fish weren't inconvenienced too much and, by the time the pump was running again, the biofilter was unaffected.

some one on Yorkshire divers might help,
though ideally find some one that's dived salt recently rather than a freshwater site, or get them to decontaminate their kitthe slow pond build thread
