If you build one AJ. And your tight for space. Go deeper. My tank is 4 1/2 feet deep.Mine was built by hand
With wood and celotex in the panels then fiber glassed bottom drain.
Best thing I ever did.a mate built it. Depends what you needed it for. First and foremost mine was for QT. The grow on for me came later.
And what joy I have had out of it.

Going to measure up today and see what I can get away with to help with space think its going to have to be pump fed so I can have filters above tank thinking of using some thing john1 the diy shower and seive. Its last on my long list but would be fun and do really like the idea . What heaters are people using. Drop in tank heaters or inline heaters .

My 4 fingerlings are in just under 100 gallons.

Bit on the small side and needs 2 water changes per week, but they are thriving and growing.

Don't want to speak too soon till I get home from hols as they've had no water changes for 2 weeks now, but also no food.

Running a 10,000 lph pump in there which makes the current very strong and they've been fine with that, but it might be too strong for them in winter months where temps will probably drop to 12C.

Ibc are 4 x 3 ft and 4ft deep, Dudley on here grew on fry in one successfully pump fed.
The hard part is getting rid of the poo,do that and over a shower and your laughing, shower can go on top of the ibc to save space and easily made.

I use an Elitech digital temperature with two aquarium 500watt heaters, turn the heater control to max and let the Elitech do its job.
Good thing with the Inc is it's got a 2ins drain so good for water changes.

Prices vary a lot,go to a food company near you and see if they use them may get one cheap.

Forgot to measure when I was at home today but just realized as much as a ibc would be ideal it ain't going to work as where it is going to a old coal shed/outbuilding and the tank wont go thought the door . So gutted about that but on with the drawing board

my concern is regarding main pond as to whether fibreglassing fumes/odour etc could settle on pond surface and contaminate water and I wouldn't be fiberglassing it anyway.

I was like how you two are thinking right now. I had a hard time with new pond syndrome. Long story. Over stocked. Because my holding tank got ripped by a builder. And all the fish had to go in pond in a oner.
And Lee and John where talking about there setups. Of grow on s.
So thought hear is my way of saving my fish. As they became ill.
Which they did. And in that first year. Of the qt setup I saved about 20 fish. Ulcers fin rot
Mouth rot you name it mine had it.
And I learned a hell of a lot through all that.
Then the grow on became the norm.

I have been thinking of using one of these intex rectangular pools, 2 x 1.5 x .6 M only £51 for a QT pond and maybe grow on pond later.
Put some celotex underneath and along sides for insulation. Put whole thing in a poly tunnel to keep it warm.
    What do you guys think?
