OK if the element is reading 59 ohms then it may be OK but to be certain you need to know if it is shorting down to the case but that maybe difficult to do without an insulation resistant tester as your tester is only capable of reading a resistance that doesn't have a definite break or gap like an insulation resistance tester can if that makes sense? If it is connected via the powerbreaker device does it trip the powerbreaker device or is it tripping an MCB somewhere? If it trips the powerbreaker device then it is leaking voltage to earth but if it doesn't trip the powerbreaker device but it does trip an MCB then you have got an overload possibly? Some times what happens is it doesn't trip the MCB it is directly connected to but instead it trips a bigger MCB further down the line. If this is happening then it is an accumulation of loads which the heater is adding to which causes the bigger MCB to trip. Basically if the heater is on a 5 amp MCB but is only consumer a load of just over 4 amps then it may not trip the 5 amp MCB but the additional just over 4 amps added to the rest of the load fed from the MCB further down the line in the main consumer unit in the house may be enough to overload that MCB if that makes sense?
Thanks for that Frim, it trips the power breaker and the mcb,so it is shorting yes?

Think I will put it down to being knackered as dont want a dodgy heater.

Thanks for your help Frim much appreciated.
    John

That's sounds like the case John so maybe best to ditch the heater or send it back if you can?

You're welcome - any time BTW

I've got loads of spiders in mine and midges, think that is what attracts the spiders a vicious circle.

    Water / midges / spiders / webs.

You and my eldest cat could compare missing teeth as she had at least 4 big teeth taken out this week due to her having FORL she hasn't got many teeth left now.
