    koi pond autumn/winter maintenance

More than likely to be shot down in flames for asking this, but now everyone's covers are going on their ponds in the coming weeks for the cold snap, can I ask what maintenance everyone does please?

So, if I get this right the only thing is the food side gets cut out and leave everything else alone, until spring? With the covers on I presume that the water tests are done on the dirty side on the filter, before it goes through the drum and passes through the Jap matting?

As above but one thing I have found with covers on, filters, no where near the amount of muck in the filters, there must be more muck airborne than what is generated in the pond.
Still feed as normal till I turn the heater off in the new year.

Yes I noticed that too, I also thought it might be lack of organic bits growing in the water, obviously bugs ect create waste too

The only thing I do different is . In winter I watch the weekly forecast for temperatures. If say for 3 or 4 days the temperature is between 8c and 10c. I will put a couple of handfuls of food in the pond. If below 8c I don't feed.
Take last winter. Pretty mild for a winter.
8c above most of the time in the pond.
    With cover on.
They got some grub most of last winter.

Hi there. I recently subscribed too. I am the one that moaned that no covers appeared in the first video about covers. "The Man From Volantis". I also expressed my opinion about the EA pond detox things and included a link to a video about them, which nobody watched lol (dont worry, i am used to that and if nobody watches my "evidence" video, i just assume everyone believes me) :-)

I just started a thread on polycarbonate to save hijacking this one.

Hoping for less beast from the east this winter and more heaven from Devon.

"The Man From Volantis" thanks for subscribing and anyone else that has from hear I hope the cover fit was worth the wait I had to give a build up to it. youtube is a hard market and every subscriber counts building a channel is hard work and I still have away to go but I'm over the hump

I keep everything going apart from switching off the uv's at night. If the fish want it I feed them right through the winter.
