    Some more winter preperation

    Good morning ladies and gents,

One side of my pond was not rendered like the remainder of the pond so now having learnt so much on here (thanks everyone) I now know that its far from ideal for winter insulation purposes so I went and purchased 2 Ecotherm 50mm panels (1200x2400 each) the very helpful guys from Aylesford timber cut them down to size so I could completely cover this side wall 80cm x 350cm x 50mm, using aluminium tape I joined the two panels together and also taped up all four sides of the whole section and using some clear "sticks like" adhesive managed to get the panel attached to the pond outer wall, upon inspection this morning it looks like the adhesive has taken well to the foil and brickwork so happy days this will help to keep the frost from penetrating the pond on that side, also added some finishing touches to the window using some pipe insulation around the window to help seal it up at night which I am putting on each night now, all looks quite cosy for them, the things we do for our fish..... cheers Steve.

    Such a neat job mate.

Cutting that insulation so straight can't have been easy either, its a messy job too. When I cut some my garden looked completely trashed, the stuff gets everywhere.

cheers guys, my DIY skills are awful, Aylesford timber has helped me no end as they have used there large mill saw to cut some pieces to size for me, i have just had to add foil tape, trim and cut where needed to make fit.... Steve.

Wise choice, and it looks the dogs danglies

if your not comfortable doing DIY and confident of a good finish. I would every time go to a place with the options to cut board/planks to size. Just built 2 shelf units in Mrs wardrobes, I need more space and racking she said, So went to B&Q and had them cut all shelves and uprights cut to size on big cutting machine, then just took it home and screwed together. All plumb and same size. All for the same price of full contiboard sheets which were exact measurements.

Once you have finished your pond fancy popping over and insulating my garage

lol, I am all insulated out mate, best not do too much more as the wife will start to write me a list all the time she thinks I am rubbish at DIY the less hassle I get, talking of shelves that's something I have to sort out in my kitchen cupboard !

Have you got some sort of hatch in the cover you can lift to drop food in and lift when it’s mild if you have have you got a pic I’ve just done frame work for mine and what a hard job ponds oval and 6 metres by 3 metres flat stones on one 6 metre side and uneven sandstone all round rest got frame sorted 2 by 2 untreated timber all round perimeter 2 glazing bars across width 3meters long wondering how I can get a hatch in or should I just not screw one section on and slide out when needed just it’s awfully windy here high up middle of nowhere

Hi Dave, no I do not have a hatch, I just lift up one corner and drop food in, it would be nice to have a hatch I must say but was worried that I might end up butchering a polycarb panel which for my diy skills would not be too difficult lol.....
