Thread: Drum filter help

Try running without the screens in.
This will help to establish if its the drum or another part of your system.
If the water level still rises and initiates the cleaning cycle, then you don`t have free flow on your outlet.

Agree with Rich, can you open the drum bypass plates then if it works ok then it's the screen.

Should be a bung, or two, that allows the water to bypass the screen if removed

If you look down the partition between the dirty side and the clean there should be a plate which you can remove and let's the dirty water go straight to the clean side.

Ok, so update.
I drained the whole filter, took the mats outs, checked the holes that let the clean water through - they are all clear.
I turned the pump back on (draco off) and the water filled within the drum itself and started to dump it.
It has to be the mesh that’s not letting any water through it.
Now, the filter has been off for a few months (for other reasons in my initial post), my thinking is that the water is sooooo dirty that the drum cleaner can’t keep up with cleaning the mesh that it times out (when it cleans it doesn’t dump water (except what’s used to clean the mesh)).
So, just started draining the pond and going to fill it up again, hopefully that will get rid of most of the algae that’s in the water itself and at least give the filter a chance to do something.
Not sure if that makes sense.

Check the spray bar nozzles are clean, if these have gotten dirty it won’t be letting enough water through to clean the screen properly. Also, I’m sure you can increase the clean time on the control panel.
In theory, it should completely clean with one rotation, I can’t see how the mesh is completely blocked if you’ve cleaned it with acid.

So how long after a clean does it take to block back up and start dumping water again?

Give you an idea of the water quality at the moment....I do believe it’s just the mesh not being able to keep up with the cleaning due to the 4min time out.

I do think it could be a combination of a couple of things...
Clean cycle length, try increasing it.
Float level height. Check how high above water level it is immediately after a clean.
Pumps to powerful, need to check what lph.
As they age the screens do get a build up on them which reduces their flow rate.
Pretty sure the flow rate on the drop ins pump fed is about 12k, looking at the size of the pond I’d imagine the pump is a lot bigger than that.

I did increase the clean cycle but that made difference. Yes, it ran for longer but timed out and then started to dump water.
Float level - can’t check this as it’s in the drum on the evolve (unlike draco boxes that have them in the corner).
Pump isn’t too powerful as it’s been running fine for many months. In theory, it should get less powerful as it clogs up with muck over time.
I can’t even get hold the supplier these days :-(

It seems to me as you said the filter has been off for a while that there is a load of crap in your pond.
No offence meant but your pond is as green as hell and I think your mesh is blocking up all the time.
You need UV on, if you can slow the pump down a bit as to let the drum do its job it's working overtime dealing with the work load.
Drums need to be on all the time even in the winter if turned off you are back to square one.John

Yes - the filter is supposed to be on but like my first post, one thing after another failed on the evolve system which meant it being off since April. Not our choice.
Looking for alternatives to get rid of the green....might buy a cheapo drum and fill it up with floss and pump through that for a while.

Original problems have been solved now. But I’m left with a green pond that needs dealing with.
Anyone know what the best way to clean the algae is?
Options are
* get another box filter and stack it with filter floss
* take the draco out of the evolve and fill the first chamber with floss
* bypass the draco and leave it the jap mats to filter the algae
