Good stuff! Thank you very much, and by volt free contact would one of those STC 1000’s be the right one to order? I’ll take the lid off tomorrow and have a look, mine is last years model (not the Z)

Yes, that stat would be suitable and, as with the diagram and instructions from my other post, take the live and neutral supply for the stat from the mains input connector block and include a small fuse holder with a 3 amp or 3.15 amp fuse for safety.

I'd appreciate it if you could take a photo of the inside of the heat pump showing the circuit board so that I can see which terminals are normally connected. Before you remove the link and connect the stat will do perfectly because I only want to see if what I imagine matches up with how the wiring is actually connected.

Yes sure no problem, I’ll get you a picture of it tomorrow of how it is as standard. I have had the cover off before but can’t remember what it looked like in comparison to the different diagrams, I’m hoping it’s the easy method lol

The other method isn't too complicated but every heat pump I've ever seen has a link that can be removed to connect external control equipment and it's usually on the terminal strip where the flow switch and other internal control features are connected.
It's complicated to explain why but all these internal controls and any external control equipment all perform the same function of switching off the heat pump when their contacts are open and switching it back on safely when the contacts are closed.

I'm pretty sure there was a silver sticker that just said 'Hydro Pro Inverter 7' under the lid, when it stops raining i'll take it back off and have a look.
I probably won't bother though to be honest, if there was a strip i'd have a go but it all looks like i'd either need to solder something or try finding some certain shape clips/plugs

There is this on the side, but doesn't give a model number, not sure if the serial number will help though...

Send me any other details you can find, including the serial number and I'll get back to the manufacturer because that would be the first reputable manufacturer's heat pump I can remember seeing that didn't have an easy way to fit external control equipment and there may be a link elsewhere that you can use.
Some of the Calorex range of heat pumps had a link near to the mains input terminals because this was easy to reach and installers could wire in external control equipment at the same time as they wired in the supply.
In fact, I made a good living designing and either supplying or installing filtration and water chemistry control panels which included facilities to control external equipment such as heat pumps or heating and ventilating equipment so that there was only one control panel that controlled everything.
If heat pumps hadn't had an easy way to link them into external control equipment, I'd have had to close my company and get a proper job!!Last edited by Manky Sanke; 11-11-2019 at 08:25 PM.

I dropped you a message on Facebook earlier Syd about this but it doesn’t look like it’s sent,
With having no external thermostat port would it work to wire in an STC 1000 like this diagram, so I’d set the temp on the heater higher than I wanted it and use the STC 1000 to control it by opening and closing the flow switch connection?

I don't like FaceBook for questions and answers because it's always seemed unreliable. I occasionally find old messages that have been hidden because they've been marked as spam so I only see them if I go looking for lost messages.
This forum is much better organised and your diagram is exactly how you should do it.

Yes I agree about facebook messages, I just couldn’t remember what thread it was on but then found the section in my profile with previous posts so went back through those and found it.
Thanks for that I’ll give it a go later
