well its coming up to the end of the Year with this competition, some of these koi have grown well and look stunning... unfortunately we have also lost a few along the way..:(

however next month (May) will be the month to take your final Pictures of your shiro's.

we have'nt got a trophy as unfortunately the one that was promised from the Forum hasnt materialised. and the Judging will be held entirely up to you guys as to the best one.
we'll narrow it down by poll etc..

it does seem to have fizzled out a little more than i would have liked but if we can make a real effort to get these last photos in i would really appriciate it.

so you have until the last day in May to get your pictures to me. if possible please photo them from above against/near a rule so we can verify the size of your Koi.

many Thanks

Pondy

Very sorry to hear that mark :/ and sorry for any that lost their shiro :(.

Fingers crossed mine is fine and has come through an outside winter that was thankfully pretty mild... have no doubt others will have grown a lot more but me no care never see a diamond big as a brick :P.

Good luck all will be great to see them all again!

Just to add Pondy thank you for running this, and to the supporters - collecting quarantining helping with quarantining with equipment, dealer for sourcing the fish holding the day etc etc . I know am not alone in my appreciation - it's maybe not said enough mate but hope you know.

Can't believe that was a year ago. I think mine was the first to fall by the wayside but hope others have had more luck.

Shame it's fizzled out after all your hard work to make this happen Pondy. Well done and thank you for all the hard work you put in.

Very nice dave , sorry to go off topic but have these koi been grown on in RO water ( soft ) . If so who said that soft water is bad for the sumi .

Good job Dave, leaning towards the last one myself.
Ryan, never been convinced about the soft water/sumi argument, think it all boils down to genetics, and maybe pond hygiene.

Hi Al

if you dont mind me asking what makes you lean towards the last one. for me no1 looks good as i like the nice white skin and clean white head. also i think the pattern is nice.

Hi Guys,

Last one for me as well as i like the shape and like seeing the Sumi come through :)

Ryan i have always run soft water and never had any worries with Sumi and i always but Shiro with little or no Sumi so don't worry about it to much mate. Did you go to Omosako when you was in Japan or any others that where breeding Shiro and what where their Sumi like ?

Hi Mark,

It's always difficult from pictures, but no4 seems to have the best body shape, and IF the sumi comes through on the head it will balance the pattern nicely. Also it's head is nice and long, it may not be the biggest now, but in a couple of years time I think it will be.

It is hard to learn what makes a good fish, and I guess time will always tell. For me, it was the 1st one because of it's clean looks etc. but take your point Al as it could become an excellent fish.
I'm still learning this one!

Sorry so late... took some pics all terrible shots as usual... here is best of a bad bunch - do have one against measure even worse but its academic as its only 35 cms - I lub this little guy and it has started to develop... skin thickened pushing sumi deeper [I think... and hope :) ] and now sumi coming back stronger and more places - cant really see in this pic but just behind its head its like morning stubble where sumi just showing there... u can see if you look close by clicking to the pic hoster and zoom if interested just heh... now if only the sumi evens on both sides :) Anyways its mine and like the body and skin and sumi quality I can see... shiros fascinating hope everyone updates over time showing how they change and come on
