Thanks to all of those that expressed an interest in the forum Grow & Show for 2015.
I've drawn up a list of those that showed interest, if on reflection anyone wants to duck out please let me know as it will make some of the fish juggling I have to do rather easier if numbers are known..
I'm thinking of last weekend in April or the May Bank Holiday weekend as potential dates.. How do these suit you Guys?

The initial thread that Dave has pointed to should explain things
End of the day it should hopefully be a little fun and is for a good cause..
In terms of quality I'm not disappointed in how they are looking ;) but will have a sort through / selection with a couple of Guys that have a far better Koi eye than me.

I would find the last weekend in April very difficult as working nights that weekend and it's quite a distance. I could do the May bank holiday though!
Would there be a possibility of picking a fish up a bit later if the date turns out to be impossible? My pond definitely needs a Showa :D

Sunday May 3rd seems to be a good day, better chance of less traffic than on the Monday..
Started the process of dropping the temps down, my feel is that the average unheated pond will be at 14-15C by that time?
Just thinking through the process..
Pool A of nominated numbered fish in one vat,
Pool B of other fish in another.
Each draw a number that corresponds to one of the fish in Pool A.
Thereafter Guys have the option of exchanging your selection for one of the fish in Pool B with your original selection going into Pool B.
Intention would be to make Pool A up with, by and large, the safest fish with Pool B having some of the higher risk / potential greater reward babes.
An example of a PoolB fish could be a potential Tancho Showa that just needs one stray area of Beni on the body to recede / be covered by developing Sumi..
If that all sounds gibberish to you then join the club, should be a fun day and we can if needed make it up as we go along.
Dave,

Deborah and I had a great time too, big thanks to Dave and Diane for hosting the event and letting us in without showing our passports.
Our trip back to Nottingham went smoothly thanks to better weather than on the way South and our two Showa are happily swimming in their new home.
I have a special mention for the fantastic bbq, the burgers and sausages looked great however they paled into insignificance next to the bacon which was cremated to perfection.
Great koi, great people and great bacon sarnies made the near 6 hour round trip well worth the effort, we both look forward to meeting up again in the future. I'm sure we will run into some of you at one of the shows this year.

naaaah no way, come on really, how old will they be by then about 16-18 months ?
is 50 cm plus possible ?, an inch a month would be considered good growth wouldnt it ?
David
Realistically I would be happy with 40+cm by May next year :)

I brought a showa from a local aquatics place earlier in the year, april or may I think, they had, had a new batch of tiddlers delivered, 4/5 inch, and I think I was first to see them, mostly mutts tbh but I saw this showa and I thought it had a great pattern so I brought it for 12 quid, id estimate it at a foot long now and I'm made up with it. Not the best body shape, its looking like its going to be one of those that grows deep instead of long, but still if it carries on growing at this rate it should make a half decent fish.
I will try to get a picture soon........im not too shy like all you lot, lol.....talk about holding your cards close to your chest :D

My pond is currently covered so I won't be netting and bowling anybody unless there's a disease outbreak for the next 2-3 months! I get to see Sharon and Sheldon on my underwater camera a lot though :o

How wrong was I??

It was 22cm on arrival now at 39cm being grown in an unheated pond.
Very happy with that.

That's reminded me, I must bowl mine up and have a measure. Not that they are going to win as I was not fully heated over the winter and the current pond is overstocked. Sharon and Sheldon should be moving into 6000g by the end of July though which I am sure they will enjoy :)

Unfortunately Dave is no longer active on this forum.
So what I suggest is that everyone who is taking part in the grow & show to bowl, measure and photograph their koi.
Once this has been done I suggest you send me one photo each by PM or email with the original length and current length.
I will then post all the photos together and run a pole so other members can vote for their favoured koi.
Any other thoughts or suggestions on this would be much appreciated…?

Many apologies for not getting any photos this summer until now- I have just been so busy building the new pond I didn't manage to do it. But despite the competition being over thought some of you might be interested in the progress of my 2 Showas!
My pond is not really heated- although I keep it above 12C in the winter so not entirely unheated either.
Both fish have made 43cm and I love them.
Sharon the Showa- 43cm.
